Detection Of Crown Gal Agent ( Agrobacterium Tumefaciens) Ingrapevine Propagating Material, Kemal Benli̇oğlu, Meriç Özakman

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Polyclonal antiserum produced against Agrobacterium tumefaciens (biovar 3) reacted in immunofluorescent test with biovar 3 strains of A.tumefaciens, causal agent of crown gal, from Central Anatolia. The antiserum did not react with A.tumefaciens biovar 1 (except for 1/200 dilution), biovar 2, other plant pathogens and symbionts. Vacuum extraction procedure were applied to recover A.tumefaciens from xylem vessels of one year old dormant grape cuttings. IFAS and selective media were used to detect bacteria. A.tumefaciens (biovar 3) was recovered from six cuttings of 8 infected vines and seven of 150 apparently healthy vines in Central Anatolia. The sensitivity thershold of the vacuum …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The long-term allowable cut was ensured using data of Forest Menegement Plan of the Akçasu Forest enterprise. In addition, actuel forest state was approximated to an optimal forest state within different rotation age. Three forest management units were established. A linear programming model was developed on used to test three different strategies for the black pine and beech management unit and five different strategies for the oak management unit. For the first period, the regeneration, afforestation area, allowable cut and total cut was 210.0 and 341.0 hectar, 58546.0 m 3 and 1764516 m 3 , respectively.

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was carried out under greenhouse conditions in 1994-1995. The influence of phosphate treatments (0, 1, 2, 3 and 4g P 2 O 5 /pot) on chromosome segregaiton at the first anaphase (AI) and tetrad regularity in plants of diploid Senu variety of meadow fescue ( Festuca pratensisHuds.) and its artificial autotetraploid were studied. In addition, the relationship was determined between balanced AI segregations and regular tetrads with respect to regular meiosis. AI segregations were often balanced in eutetraploids but the frequency of balanced groups was found to be lower than that of the diploids. The difference between diploid …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this research, mechanical behavior of traditional and alternative joints which are used on construction design of furniture frames have been investigated. Those members which are taken into the frames construction as tension, bending and shear strength members with dowel, mor-tise- tenon joints with adhesive and two types of furniture connectros and a combination of both of them are five types of joints have been tested totaly under static load. Results indicate that the alternative joints which are provided flexible connections are more succesful than traditional joints which are provided rijit connections.

Determinations Of Microbiological Activity, Organic Matter And Nitrogen Forms In Soil In The Different Soil Tillage, Fallow-Wheat...., M. Sait Adak, Andreas Biesantz, Velittin Gürgün

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

According to experimental results of two crop rotation cycles higher soil microbiological activities (i.e.b-Glucosidase and dehydrogenase activity) were obtained from soil samples of winter lentil plots in comparision to fallow plots. Highest activities of both parameters were found in the upper soil layer of 0-20 cm depth. The observed differences between lentil and fallow disap-peared during the following cropping season. Similar tendencies were also obtained for organic matter, total nitrogen and total porosity volume in the soil. It could be observed that soil fertility improved with regard to these parameters after lentil. Thus, a legume crop (e.g. winter lentil) should …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Drug yield and volatile oil content and its components of Thymus vulgaris were investigated during the different growing periods under both lowland and mountainous conditions. The highest drug yields were obtained from lowland conditions during the post flowering stage. Also, it has been determined that environmental conditions have significantly influenced the harvest dates. The 17 components were identified in the essential oil of Thyme. Essential oil content and its components were significantly affected by both climatic and ecological conditions and various harvest dates.

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Totally sixty four chickpea lines were grown for assesment of response to drought stress in the stress and non-stress environments under rainfed conditions. The seed yield of the lines when grown under the non-stress condition increased at a rate of 53% over the in stress condition. The line, FLIP 92-154C, was determinated as the best tolerant line to drought stress environment under the field condition. Also, seed yield strongly correlated with biological yield, harvest index, mean productivity, tolerance to drought stress and drought susceptibility index in the stress environment.

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In forestry, transportation of harvested woods from compartments is very difficult, expensive and time-consuming task. Forests covering generally high and steep slopes of mountainous areas in Eastern Black Sea Region make the problem extremely dif-ficult. Transportation of forest products from forest to the landing have been practiced various forms. Studies were conducted on the loading, skidding and stacking machines and mobile skylines at Giresun Forest District. Furthermore, logging machines in the region were found very important from the technical and the economical point of view. In ad-dition, the rent values for loging machines is found to be insufficient.

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, 178 common vecth genotypes were tested in Bursa in 1989-1991. The aim of this study was to determine characters that affect seed and straw yield using simple correlation coefficients, path analysis and stepwise analysis. Days to flower, spirng vigour, seeds/plant and pods/node for seed yield; plant height, spring vigour, leaflets/leaf and pods/node for straw yield were significant characteristics in pre-harvest selections. Harvest index, straw yield, spring vigour and 1000-seed weight for seed yield; plant height, spring vigour, seed yield and harvest index for straw yield were found to be significant in postharvest selections.
