This doctoral capstone project was completed through a partnership with Linden Waldorf School in Nashville, TN. The invention, application, and advocacy of occupational therapy approaches for the neurodivergent student population were the main objectives of this research. This project aimed to empower Linden Waldorf educators and staff to more effectively address the needs of their kids by offering direct observations, educational presentations, and a range of educational resources on an assortment of neurodivergent deficits and diagnoses. We collected and analyzed an array of biosignals (face electromyogram, skin electrodermal activity, peripheral temperature, and electrocardiogram) in 60 participants with and without misophonia, a condition characterized by decreased tolerance to innocuous sounds. Our goal was to objectively characterize the physiological response to misophonia triggering sounds. We found that misophonic responses can be objectively identified in some cases through atypical physiological reactions to triggering stimuli, though not all participants exhibited this response. Our analyses suggest a large interindividual variability in response to misophonic triggers and highlights the need for methodological adjustments in future experiments to increase the detectability of misophonic …

Intro: For older community members experiencing homelessness, both their housing status and age are associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Lack of consistent protection from outdoor temperatures are hypothesized to affect variation in blood pressure seasonally. In this study, we sought to compare older (55+) and younger (under 55) individuals in this cohort and identify within-group associations between blood pressure (BP) and mean daily temperature (MDT) as affected by season.

This paper explores the development, implementation, and evaluation of an at-home mental health resource kit designed to support maternal mental health while navigating the stresses of new motherhood. Utilizing Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring as a theoretical framework, the study assesses the effectiveness of integrative therapies such as aromatherapy, mindful meditation, and educational resources in managing postpartum stress. Introduction: Half of undergraduate students are employed, meaning they must balance work with academics, physical activity (PA), and personal responsibilities. This study examines the potential negative impact of employment on PA, academic performance, and quality of life (QOL) among college students. Methods: The cross-sectional survey comprised 125 Bellarmine University students (Age 21.07 ± 3.40; 52% female, 48% male). Adolescent mental health is a growing concern, with anxiety disorders being particularly prevalent among high school students. Left untreated, anxiety can significantly impact academic performance, social functioning, and long-term mental health. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated these challenges, highlighting the critical need for effective screening and intervention strategies. The Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) is a validated tool for identifying anxiety disorders, yet its application in high school settings is limited. This scoping review explores the effectiveness of GAD-7 in increasing mental health referrals and improving anxiety outcomes in high school students.

This retrospective study examined the safety and efficacy of 56, 84, and 112 mg intranasal (IN) esketamine via medical record review of 24 patients with treatment resistant depression (TRD). Doses ranged from 56 mg to 112 mg and were titrated across sessions to maximize individual response while considering tolerability. Treatment response was defined by reduction in average Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scores. Tolerability was defined by blood pressures at baseline, 40 minutes after, and 2 hours after drug administration. Patients ranged from 19 to 60 years old (average 38.87), and 15 (62.5%) were female. An urban community-based organization conducted a study to examine demographics of individuals who use drugs and their approaches to risk reduction. A substantial proportion reported encountering significant barriers to accessing substance use disorder (SUD) services.

In collaboration with a state survey, the community organization recruited a convenience sample of individuals who actively used drugs, examining substance use patterns, healthcare access, and barriers to SUD services. Community health workers facilitated outreach efforts, focusing on harm reduction engagement, and healthcare access.

The emergency department (ED) plays a critical role in addressing a wide range of healthcare needs and can be the first point of contact for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD). Buprenorphine, a partial opioid agonist, is a medication that helps treat OUD. On January 12, 2023, federal changes removed a major barrier, allowing all clinicians to prescribe buprenorphine. Later in 2023, a Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) program was implemented in a high-volume free-standing ED. We aimed to review the impact of these changes on buprenorphine administration.

Emergency mental health hospital readmissions present significant challenges to healthcare systems, often resulting in increased costs, prolonged hospital stays, and poor patient outcomes. Continuity of care through predischarge referrals to outpatient mental health services, psychosocial support, and community resources has been proposed as a strategy to reduce readmissions. However, the effectiveness of these interventions remains inconsistent across different populations and settings.

Previous literature addresses unethical pharmaceutical company marketing strategies, relationships within the field, and cost differences. This study includes qualitative insights from professionals in the field. Interviews conducted collected information that showed the prevalence of mental health illnesses, how treatments are prescribed, and the extent of pharmaceutical influence. Chiari Malformation Type I (CM-I) is a neurological condition characterized by the descent of cerebellar structures through the foramen magnum.
