Diabetes is reaching epidemic proportions in the United States with a record 25.8 million diagnosed in 2010 compared to 20.8 million in 2005. African Americans have the highest prevalence of diabetes in the United States. Social support related to medical conditions has been found effective in increasing treatment adherence. The purpose of this study is to gain a clearer understanding of diabetes support within African American couples’ relationships. The purpose of this presentation is to provide participants with an understanding of how to revamp or refresh a brand on a limited budget using a case study approach. The ‘Believe in All Your Possibilities’ community-based prevention marketing campaign, which was targeted at reducing alcohol and tobacco use among middle school youth, was the result of a long term school-community-university partnership in Southeast Florida. In the aftermath of a major natural disaster, few are equipped to respond effectively to the unique emotional and psychological needs to children. Child life specialists are specifically trained to help children effectively cope with traumatic situations, though very few child life specialists have engaged in disaster-related work. There exists the need for a medium through which child life specialists can become involved and offer their crucial and unique services. This project offers a rationale for why this medium is necessary and proposes a model for the integration of child life into the pre-existing Red Cross disaster relief model.

Depression and other significant mental and behavioral health (MBH) problems have not been well documented in frontier areas of Idaho. It has been suggested that residents of frontier areas access their primary care provider (PCP) for most of their general health and MBH needs. To determine PCPs’ perceptions of MBH issues in frontier areas of Idaho, surveys were sent to all 252 PCPs with a registered practice location in one of Idaho’s 26 frontier counties. This study of 24 therapists and 64 family members representing 109 adolescent residents of six residential treatment centers aimed to better understand therapists' and family members' points of view about family involvement in residential treatment for troubled adolescents. The study also provided the therapists' and family members' recommendations for family involvement in residential treatment.

Findings from this mixed-methods study suggest that (a) the families from this study were involved in many different ways in their adolescents' treatment, including phone calls, visits to the treatment center, participation in therapy, and so forth; (b) there were areas in which therapists and family …

Parental satisfaction refers to the extent to which parents are satisfied with their children in relation to parent-child interactions and child behavior. The relationship between parental satisfaction and child behavior problems has been demonstrated extensively in the literature. Children who exhibit increased behavior problems appear to be at increased risk of parental aggression. Maltreating parents evidence greater levels of parental dissatisfaction as compared to caregivers of children who are not maltreated. Thus, low parental satisfaction is a suspected risk-factor for child maltreatment. This self-study uses a heuristic approach to look at what effects an intense immersion in doll-making, book arts, and reflective journaling has on an art therapy intern/student’s personal growth and identity development. Eight weeks of data collection took place followed by multiple individual content analyses to discover themes from the journals and art-making. The technique of stepping away from the analysis intermittently to provide more objectivity was also used to decrease biases. The purpose of this thesis was to develop a proposal to understand how a group of breast cancer survivors would respond to a group art therapy experience that focuses on making art about their bodies, and to examine what themes would emerge in the artwork and journals of participants during the course of the study. The purpose of this study was to determine if and how culture influences children’s drawing styles. In particular, the study compared the human figure drawings of Indian, Indian-American, and American children using a modified form of the Formal Elements Art Therapy Scale (FEATS) (Gantt & Tabone, 1998).

Twenty-five second graders (aged 7 and 8 years) and twenty-five fourth graders (aged 10 and 11 years) participated from the school in India.
