Supervisors’ Perspectives: Variables Influencing The Quality Of Supervision, Terra L. Rose

A number of studies have sought to examine clinical supervision from the perspective of the supervisee; however, fewer studies have investigated the practice of supervision from the supervisor’s perspective. Using a survey approach, supervisors at all levels of expertise reported their experiences surrounding the applied and administrative aspects of supervision. Data examined training in supervision, typical supervision activities with supervisees, the value placed on supervision at work settings, and how administrative influences impact supervisory practice. The MMPI-2 was administered to 56 adult male offenders in a maximum-security prison serving a life sentence for first degree murder. This study evaluated the predictive ability of the MMPI-2 scales 4, 6 and 9 to distinguish among groups of inmates with high and low infraction rates. Results indicated that as the weighted infraction rate (WRI) increased above 9, the T score on scale 4 sharply decreased at the same rate of the increase for 0-9 WRI. The present study examined the relationship between the personality dimensions assessed by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and perceptions of workplace behaviors and the readiness to exhibit various forms of workplace aggression. College students with at least part-time work experience 129 (75 females and 54 males) completed the MBTI and a survey which asked participants to provide ratings of; (1) to which they would label various forms of workplace behavior as aggressive, and (2) the extent to which they have personally witnessed and exhibited various forms of workplace aggression.
