Cuban Immigrants’ Experience With Acculturation And How They Cope In The United States, Lourdes Araujo

Objective: This research examines how Cuban immigrants experience cope and adapt to the United States. Cuban immigration is associated with specific stressors related to the immigration experience and the necessary process of acculturation and assimilation. These major stressors can result in mental health concerns among Cuban immigrants; however, no studies have examined how acculturation may influence Cuban immigrants’ coping skills and resultant mental health concerns. This unique study is the first to examine the coping skills Cuban immigrants use during acculturation and the effects of these skills on Cuban immigrants’ mental health. The Affordable Care Act allocated $250 million in 2010 for disease prevention via four critical priorities, including Public Health Training and Research & Tracking. Public health educators in academia have an opportunity to reexamine and reconstruct educative preparations for public health workers to adequately identify and address the environmental, social, and behavioral issues that impact health across the life span. Public health professionals are obligated to consider the larger political, social, and economic implications forces surrounding their work to affect the largest possible positive outcomes in communities ' health. Are elementary teachers self-directed learners? If so, do their learning activities outside their classrooms translate into their classrooms? The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship, if any, between elementary teachers’ self-directed learning and activities in their classrooms. A two phase, mixed methods design first utilized a quantitative study from which the results were used to denote the type of data collected in the second, qualitative phase. The quantitative Phase I of this study involved using a survey instrument in order to identify self-directed learners and identify categories of teacher learners.
