Problem Statement: Dining Services uses two storage rooms. Only one storage room, what used to the Gun Room, is now available. The storage rooms contain items that are used seasonally infrequently or are no longer used. Items are disorganized, overcrowded, and unlabeled, making it difficult to find items. This leads to waste in resources as items that cannot be found are reordered again. Time is wasted searching for stored items, leading to employee inefficiency. An employee safety hazard was created due to items stacked up.

Project Goal: Evaluation the usage of the freezer space and identify waste. Reorganize the items within the freezer to make the flow work faster. By addressing these issues, it would lead to less confusion as to where items belong and less time wasted by having to ask questions.

Adversity: Its Affect On The Resilience Of Female Pilots, Linda M. Pittenger D.Mgt., Stephanie Douglas Ph.D.
National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)
Women are one of the solutions to alleviating the pending pilot shortage. Becoming a pilot needs to appeal to women. Resilience plays an important role in determining whether women in male-dominated career fields will pursue or abandon their careers. The pilot profession is dominated by masculine beliefs, values and perceptions creating an organizational culture adverse and challenging to women.
The study objective was to explore the influence of adversity on female pilots and its effect on resiliency. In our sample of 1,499 female pilots, we found lower resiliency levels as compared to a general U.S. sample. Additionally, statistically significant differences …

International Conference on Gambling & Risk Taking
A phenomenological study within the gaming industry is currently being conducted to determine influential indicators within business operations. Based on interviews of executive leadership at global companies, participants disclosed the environmental developments at their organization based on industry norms and the ability to develop/execute environmental initiatives. Four themes emerged: the leader’s ideology and the political climate; the company’s founding principles; support from the industry and/or within the company; and the ability to change industry dynamics. Each leader touched on these four points. Regardless of department type, level of leadership, and the desire to be globally conscious, all participants remarked on …

Visual Management and the Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) Cycle are well known Lean methods. The Student Process Improvement Coordinators in the Office of Continuous Improvement at Michigan Technological University use white boards to track progress on recurring performance duties. These boards cover multiple areas of work and showcase how many students with different schedules keep track of their workload within the office. This case study examines how the Visual Management boards have changed through multiple cycles of PDCA, in pursuit of perfect visual communication between the students who work in the office, and also perfect performance. 21st Century Church Leadership And Pastor Preparation, Veronica Abney
Scholar Week 2016 - present
This study examined 21st-century American churches and the pastors who lead them to determine whether those pastors who attended seminaries, traditional universities, or denominational institutions were more academically prepared to grow church membership, increase weekly attendance, retain members, manage high-impact leadership teams, and engage in local church formation than were pastors who did not attend or complete any academic institution. The researcher examined the academic completion levels, leadership and church growth characteristics, and professional training of the participating pastors from six broadly defined categories: (a) pastors who participated in the 2014-2015 Outreach/LifeWay magazine survey; (b) pastors who participated in …

River Cities Industrial and Organizational Psychology Conference
A culture that embraces change, responds quickly to changing needs and connects everyone at every level as business owners is an exciting future for companies and employees. In this culture leaders learn to unleash the unique potential in each individual to solve problems never solved before. The opportunity for positive impact goes far beyond our daily work. It spills into every area of our lives and in tangible ways impacts the world. Performance metrics and engagement only put you in line for this door to the future. The door can get locked when organizations become lulled into thinking “good-enough” by …

River Cities Industrial and Organizational Psychology Conference
Awareness of the importance of culture is growing at a fast rate but there is no consistent understanding about how to effectively evolve culture with a direct and sustainable impact on performance. This awareness-understanding gap helps to explain why most organizations report they don’t understand their culture and believe change is needed. Culture crises (Uber, etc.) gain widespread exposure and superficial tips and keys dominate the popular press. Leaders and change agents often feel lost in the wilderness as they try to piece together improvements that will impact culture. This will likely be the most performance-focused culture educational session you …

Project Management Office To The Rescue: Aligning Workforce And Resources With Library Vision And Delivering Results, Anastasia Guimaraes, Zheng (John) Wang
Charleston Library Conference
Many libraries today are inundated with increasing number of tasks, projects, and initiatives through which they hope to achieve their mission and strategic vision only to find themselves losing focus and drowning in the volume of work. Hesburgh Libraries at the University of Notre Dame struggled with absorbing an exponentially growing number of projects and aligning them with institutional strategic initiatives and goals. The increasing number of projects and the relatively stable size of the workforce significantly impacted the institution’s ability to complete projects in a timely fashion and within the budgetary allocation.

Recipe For Success: Behavioral Ingredients For Superior Performing Leaders, Linda M. Pittenger
National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)
The aviation and aerospace business is a complex adaptive system that includes emerging technologies, competitors, government policies, cost demands, globalization, and talent constraints. To effectively lead in the chaos of constant demands and disruptive and unpredictable external environments, having deep and broad functional expertise is not enough. Superior performing leaders require further broadening and deepening of selected behavioral competencies in order to succeed (Smith, 2000). Particular to aviation and aerospace, understanding the types of leaders needed to be successful is especially important since baby boomer employees will soon retire and the middle managers that will likely replace them lack the …
