Puppy Love And [Information] Play: An Intersection Of Theatre, Queer Kink, And Consent, Emily Kitchens

This note from the field centers on a nexus of queer kink subcultures and consent-based intimacy work in theatre. I report, investigate and wrangle with the process of incorporating queer kink aesthetics into the production of Love and Information by Caryl Churchill I directed at KSU February 2023. What I have learned and hope to demonstrate throughout the paper, is that queer kink subcultures are often paradigmatic examples of communities built on consent, and we as performing arts practitioners can more visibly expand the margins of our cultural competency dialogues to not only include them but look to them as …

From the communication perspective, the process can be viewed as a 5-stage model consisting of the: (a) orientation, (b) preparation, (c) experiential and treatment, (d) convalescence, and (e) reflection phases. Medical tourism is uniquely situated in a nexus of academic literature related to communication, business …

Medical tourism is a process in which a consumer travels from one’s health jurisdiction to receive biomedical treatments or services, thus becoming a patient. This chapter explores how global media frame cases of patient death associated with the medical tourism (MT) process between 2009-2019. A qualitative content analysis of 50 patient mortality cases found that (1) a majority of media representations of medical tourism patient death are of middle-class, minority females between 25-55 years of age seeking cosmetic surgery internationally; (2) sudden death, grief, and bereavement counseling is noticeably absent from medical tourism providers (MTPs); and (3) the acknowledgement of …

La Práctica De Interculturalidad Crítica: Un Caso De Estudio De La Ong Corporación La Matriz Y La Comunidad Migrante Haitiana En Barrio Puerto, Valparaíso, Annessa Ihde
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Another View On International Relations [Book Review International Public Relations And Public Diplomacy: Communication And Engagement], Isaac Antwi-Boasiako
Other
In their 2015 book International Public Relations and Public Diplomacy: Communication and Engagement, Guy J. Golan, Sung-Un Yang, and Denis F. Kinsey assembled renowned and leading scholars in public diplomacy and public relations to examine the conceptual and practical relationships between international public relations and public diplomacy. The book is a collection of various chapters integrating public diplomacy and public relations research. It argues that public diplomacy should be studied from the public relations perspective because public diplomacy is strategic communication management. Therefore, it should apply ‘key lessons from public relations literature’ (Golan, Yang, 2015, p. 3). It applies some …

The Impact Of Lgbtq Appeal On Purchase Behavior Of Luxury Products Among Men In Kuwait, Saud Alyaqout
Global Strategic Communications Student Work
Abstract
The social milieu presents an increasing awareness and support for the LGBTQ community, encouraging clothing companies to adopt LGBTQ-themed products. In a predominantly Muslim country such as Kuwait, religion influences beliefs and practices towards the LGBTQ. Although studies reveal that the Quran indicates unclear teachings on the topic, most interpretations are negative. This study examined attitudes on the brand and ad with LGBTQ themes, and purchase intentions. The survey with 55 participants show mostly unfavorable attitudes towards this community. Their religious stance indicates an impact to their negative perceptions of the ad and the brand. Consequently, they also demonstrated …

Cross-Cultural Managerial Behavior – A Comparative Study Between The Republic Of Korea And The United States Of America, Colson Richter
Cross-Cultural Managerial Behavior – A Comparative Study Between The Republic Of Korea And The United States Of America, Colson Richter
Senior Honors Theses
Among the many trade partners the United States engages with, the Republic of Korea is the nation’s seventh largest trading partner – exchanging over $154.9 Billion in 2020 (USTR, 2021). Despite this strong economic relationship between these two nations, the cultural distance that these societies have is one of the largest within anthropological academia (Hofstede, 2017). This reality creates the need for a solid framework of a management-focused, cultural understanding between these two countries.
In this study, academic literature will be collected and reviewed to lend insight into particular areas of culture that an American and Korean perspective would be …

The present study provides a comparative analysis of the media convergence of China Media Group and US Agency for Global Media to illustrate the increasing US–China rivalry in international communication. It yields the following tentative findings: Both have been undergoing rigorous development at the technological and operational levels of convergence to enhance international communication; both are made to show more explicit loyalty to its official ideology, and both have become more monolithic via convergence; both have integrated their broadcasting services for an increasingly integrated market of information and news; both seem to be weaponizing itself against each other to fuel …
Theory-Building And Tool-Building For A Science Of Dysfunctional Political Discourse, Eric Hamilton, Marguerite Williamson, Andrew Hurford
Theory-Building And Tool-Building For A Science Of Dysfunctional Political Discourse, Eric Hamilton, Marguerite Williamson, Andrew Hurford
Education Division Scholarship
This paper extends a developing analytic framework for political discourse that takes place over digital social media. Earlier presentations of the framework have furnished a rationale for applying the conceptual framework of epistemic frame theory and the tools of quantitative ethnography for political discourse analysis. They have provided early existence proofs of the viability of epistemic network analysis (ENA) for rudimentary models of social media threads that involve political content. The current theoretical paper moves significantly beyond this foundation. It summarizes and deepens the explanation of the constructs of discursive transactions, response grammars, and epistemic frames in political discourse. It …
