This thesis explores tensions between tourism and Hawaiian self-representation. I discuss tensions between tourists, locals, and Hawaiians and how the role of each of these contributes to Hawaiian identity. I also discuss how Hawaiian culture exists in modernity and expose the issues that exist between the Hawaiian Kingdom and the United States and how they are perceived by each of these parties.
