“Not What I Expected”: A Narrative Inquiry On The Leadership Experiences Of Women Campus Recreation Directors In The Power Five Conferences, Emily J. Johnson
Doctoral Dissertations
While there is an increase of women working in campus recreation, there remains an underrepresentation of women in leadership roles within campus recreation and related industries. Not only can it be challenging for women to navigate male-dominated fields to achieve their desired position, but women experience difficulties once they finally obtain leadership roles. This study built upon the limited research conducted about the experiences of women leaders within campus recreation. The purpose of the study was to gain further understanding of the experiences of women who are directors of campus recreation. Specifically examining their career development, resilience, and health in …
The Development Of Health System Resiliency: How Kenya's Experience With Malaria Impacted Its Reaction To The Covid-19 Pandemic, Zoe A. Ward
Baker Scholar Projects
Public health scholars have recently focused on health system resiliency to explain how previous experiences dealing with public health crises impact the healthcare sector, public behavior, and policy response to novel crises. However, it is unclear how resiliency develops. This study contributes by testing whether a health system’s experience with a health emergency and significant interventions impacts the response to a novel crisis. This research asks, “How has Kenya’s experience with malaria impacted its response to COVID-19?” Using the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Malaria Indicator Survey (MIS), I develop a malaria adherence score to measure county-level compliance …
Pandemics And Power: An Applied Analysis Of American Inequality, Megan A. Engle
Pandemics And Power: An Applied Analysis Of American Inequality, Megan A. Engle
Pursuit - The Journal of Undergraduate Research at The University of Tennessee
Pandemics represent both social change and continuance. While these public health crises bring about seemingly new issues, they also have a unique ability to reveal pre-existing problems within our society and perpetual social processes. Understanding historical patterns related to public health crises provides greater insight on the ongoing pandemic and American policy needs. Research reveals that, both historically and presently, systemic social injustices and economic inequalities are inflamed by such events. As a result, pandemics disproportionately affect minority groups in several interconnected ways. In examining public health theory, past pandemics, and the present moment, the effects of both power disparities …

Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA) 50-3-2001- 2019, the Hazardous Chemical Right-To-Know Law, became a law in 1985. Rabies Control, Victor C. Hobday
Rabies Control, Victor C. Hobday
MTAS History
This bulletin deals with a subject that frequently deserves more attention from municipal officials than it receives. Most cities probably have inadequate control measures to guard against the danger of rabies, and quite often the problem is overlooked entirely. Perhaps such a situation is the result primarily of lack of information - and it is this need that this bulletin attempts to meet by outlining effective measures and the reasons for taking action.
