The dissemination of intervention and treatment outcomes as effect sizes bounded by conf idence intervals in order to think meta-analytically was promoted in a recent article in Educational Researcher. I raise concerns with unfettered reporting of effect sizes, point out the con in confidence interval, and caution against thinking meta-analytically. Instead, cataloging effect sizes is recommended for sample size estimation and power analysis to improve social and behavioral science research.

This multi-disciplinary approach helps philosophers and leadership scholars present a fully integrated view of the subject.
Issues For Connection Of Distributed Generation In Rural/Remote Power Systems, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Gerard Ledwich, Michael Negnevitsky
Issues For Connection Of Distributed Generation In Rural/Remote Power Systems, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Gerard Ledwich, Michael Negnevitsky
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
Connection of distributed generation (DG) into a distribution grid system affects the normal operation, control and protection of the distribution system. This paper addresses some of the technical issues arisen due to the addition of generation to a rural/remote distribution network. In this paper, a voltage controlled rotary DG is modelled to operate in the line of voltage sensitivity for maximum voltage improvement. A scenario-based study on DG operation and control has been conducted and recommendations for effective operation of DG presented. An investigation on barriers to inclusion of utility owned and customer owned DG has been carried out and …

Ruling-class boys are taught early that they are inherently different from and essentially superior to other children. Toughening and distancing is one part of the relentless maturation process, which also concerns exclusion of those outside the class who are inherently inferior, and collusion and coherence within it. In addition to learning that they have particular social responsibilities, ruling-class children are taught that they have precious talents and abilities which are shielded and developed so that they may become the best that they know they will become. The boys are prodded as well as toughened and protected, learning also that friendship, …

The Limits Of University Autonomy: Power And Politics At The Universidad Nacional Autónoma De México, Imanol Ordorika

The nature and extent of institutional autonomy at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) has been a matter of contention between academics, policy makers and university members for many years. Opinions about governmental influence over the university in Mexico range from absolute autonomy to absolute control. Few of them, however, are founded on research on university-government relations. Most studies of univer- sity autonomy in Mexico are based on classical definitions and pluralist political perspectives that limit a thorough understanding of this relation between the University and the government in the context of an authoritarian State. This article provides an …
