“Rights of Muslim Converts to Christianity in Egypt” is a research long-overdue, because converts are increasing in number and they are stripped off their human rights, persecuted by state and society, and considered as apostates civically dead. There is a sharp discrimination and difference in jurisprudence between Court of Administrative Litigation of State Council and State Security Court, which deal with converts. Converts of Christian background are recuperating their civil liberty rights, whereas rights of converts of Muslim background are still violated. I reached this conclusion by tracking the jurisprudential development of the Court of Administrative Litigation, which moved from …

This thesis explores how boarder guards limits the amount of knowledge an anthropologist really can obtain doing research. The research is based upon a concrete case study in Egypt where local and national government bodies "border guard" how knowledge is gained within a development project. Measuring The Degree Of Central Bank Independence In Egypt, Noha Aboubakr Farrag
Archived Theses and Dissertations
The past few years have witnessed a trend of increased delegation of authority to central banks. Increasing central bank independence is a recommended strategy for governments to establish a credible commitment to price stability as the final objective of the monetary authority, even at the cost of other objectives that may be more appealing to the political authorities. Existing literature on measuring central bank independence focuses on developed countries where quantifying the independence of central banks is easier, since quantifying the legal charter is sufficient to reflect the degree of central bank independence. However, in developing countries this task is …

This is an anthropological study of farmworkers living in reclaimed desert land in Egypt. Since the start in the early-1950s, desert land reclamation has been a governmental enterprise to increase cultivable land in order to keep pace with the rapid population growth. From the mid-1970s, reclaimed desert areas started to be distributed to various groups of people. "Peasants, "university graduates", "public company employees", and recently "evicted tenants" received small plots of land from the government, and became small-scale farmers.
