Eminent domain is a problem that effects both the West and the East. This thesis focuses on blighted homes that are confiscated by government and later used for private if not corporate reasons rather than for public use intentions. The comparison is between the United States and Egypt, and three neighborhoods are discussed from each country separately. 10x The Talent = 1/3 Of The Credit: How Female Musicians Are Treated Differently In Music, Meggan Jordan

This is an exploratory, qualitative study of female musicians and their experiences with discrimination in the music industry. Using semi-structured interviews, I analyze the experiences of nine women, ages 21 to 56, who are working as professional musicians, or who have worked professionally in the past. I ask them how they are treated differently based on their gender. Three forms of subtle discrimination are inferred from their narrative histories. First, female musicians are mistaken for non-musicians. They are encapsulated into inferior roles, like "the gimmick," "good for a girl," and "invisible accessory." Performing And Agential Selves: Employees As Targets Of Control, And How We, As Academics, Theorise About Them, Karin H. Garrety, Simon Down

Critical management scholars have noted how contemporary management practices encourage and sometimes require workers to adopt multiple identities, and that cynicism, irony and resistance are often manifested in those identities. In this paper, we explore some attributes of modern selfhood that make these positions possible. We concentrate on two related aspects: (1) the capacity of people to reflect on, and manipulate, the selves that they present to the world, and (2) different forms of agency that actors can effect. We argue that closer attention to these attributes can sharpen our analyses of organisational control and its impacts on the self.

Distributed Generation (DG) is often used to export power to the utility system. Loss of main supply can cause a severe loading mismatch between DG generation and load consumption. Consequently, the voltage and frequency of the islanded system will cross the allowable limit. Due to this fact, it is essential to control the voltage and frequency in the islanding mode of operation. Voltage problem is always a critical issue in operating a distribution system. The uncertainties of load distribution and variation have introduced a great complexity to the task of maintaining system voltage within the permitted range. In this paper, small-scale generator, known as distributed generation (DG), is employed in the system and acting as a voltage regulator. The output of DG is controlled in such a way that acceptable level of electrical supply quality is achieved with a reasonable operating cost. With the entry of Tasmania into the national electricity market, equipment upgrades are required in many parts of the existing power system. This presents an opportunity to embrace new technology, in order to enhance the current efficiency and productivity of the system. One area is that of hydro-turbine speed governors, an integral part of maintaining the frequency of the output. This paper analyses the current standard control algorithm for turbine governors, the PID controller. It illustrates the processes involved, tuning and their limitations. Finally, alternative control systems are discussed.
