The Relationship Between Masculinity, Race, And Type Of Sport On Attitudes Toward Help Seeking In Retired Male College Athletes, Michael Filiaci
The Relationship Between Masculinity, Race, And Type Of Sport On Attitudes Toward Help Seeking In Retired Male College Athletes, Michael Filiaci
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
Despite an increased risk of developing mental health difficulties, retired male college athletes are significantly less likely to seek mental health treatment than the general population. Results from previous studies suggest that the type of sport, race, and masculinity level of an athlete may contribute to more negative perceptions of help seeking. The purpose of this study was to fill gaps in the extant literature, raise awareness of stress associated with retirement from sport, and help identify those who may be most at risk for developing mental illness. An analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was performed to measure the differences in …
Understanding And Identifying The Knowledge And Attitudes Of High School Coaches On Sport-Related Concussions, Marc A. Mortellaro
Understanding And Identifying The Knowledge And Attitudes Of High School Coaches On Sport-Related Concussions, Marc A. Mortellaro
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
Background and Purpose of the Study: Sport-related concussions are a major public health issue, particularly so in the setting of sports. Mental Health Screening Of Veterans Diagnosed With Cancer: Analyzing Psychological Distress And Attitudes Towards Seeking Professional Psychological Help, Jessica Jean Baptiste
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
Studies analyzing mental health care utilization in veterans with a co-occurrence of a medical and psychological diagnosis are still underrepresented in the literature. The primary purpose of this study is to examine psychological screening methods of veterans diagnosed with cancer and determining when these veterans are more likely to endorse psychological symptoms. This information can contribute to the discussion of effective ways of integrating mental health screening in specialty care settings. A correlational, causal-comparative research design is employed to answer the study research questions and hypotheses. The participants include Vietnam, Korean, and World War II veterans seeking oncology services at …
The Relationship Between Traumagenic Dynamic Responses Towards Childhood Sexual Abuse, Ethnic Identity, Social Support, Trauma Severity, And Attitudes Towards Interpersonal Relationships In Adolescent Females, Nita J. Makhija
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
This study used the theory of traumagenic dynamics (TD) to examine how symptomatology resulting childhood sexual abuse (CSA) are related to the attitudes adolescent females have towards interpersonal relationships. The ultimate goal being that this understanding can inform the creation and implementation of empirically based clinical interventions that specifically target CSA-related symptoms which are associated with the endorsement of unhealthy attitudes towards romantic relationships. In examining this relationship, family support and ethnic identity were examined as protective factors against the endorsement of unhealthy attitudes towards romantic relationships, and trauma severity and the presence of domestic violence in the home were …
