Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The prevalent problem with which libraries deal with today is decrease of patrons in younger generation. There is a lot of academic and research attention dedicated to studies of their behavior and trends connected to increase in time spent online and on social media. There are also concerns about attention spans of younger children and their reading habits. Many libraries tried to pull younger generation toward book reading and libraries in general by starting Instagram accounts but not many know how to run it to address the desired group of users. We have conducted interviews with three out of eight …

Material Format Preference Of Music Faculty At Kennesaw State University, A. Carey Huddlestun
Faculty and Research Publications
Historically, collection development has focused on what material to purchase. However, with the maturation of web-based music audio databases, web-based video databases, online music scores, electronic books and reference material, and commercial audio/visual streaming services, the format of material is also now an important collection consideration. Faced with difficult collection development decisions due to the Performing Arts Library’s (PAL) limited space being filled beyond capacity with physical material, PAL librarians at Kennesaw State University (KSU) sought to discover the material and format preference of music faculty. This was done to see if faculty would use digital material, requiring no physical …

Getting Books Into The Hands Of Children In Transition, Earl O. Smith
IPS/BAS 495 Undergraduate Capstone Projects
This project aims to get books into the hands of Children in Transition. Who are these children? They are children that have been given a bad hand. These children live in Motels or are homeless or sleeping in their cars. This project will provide these children with the opportunity to get books that are theirs to keep, read and value as their own. I am working with Spread the Word Nevada to get books into these children's hands.
Children in Transition (CIT) WCSD's CIT Program serves children experiencing homelessness by providing resources, support, and comprehensive services to students from birth …

Democracy Requires Good Law Libraries – With Books, Franklin L. Runge
Democracy Requires Good Law Libraries – With Books, Franklin L. Runge
Library Scholarship
In this brief commentary, the author argues for the continued presence of a print collection in law libraries because (1) law libraries serve as a fail-safe for democracy, (2) inexperienced researchers achieve a greater understanding of how primary law is produced when exposed to print materials, and (3) there is still a high demand for print materials in scholarly endeavors.

Copyright, Fair Use, Scholarly Communication, etc.
Books play an essential role in scholarly communication, notably but not only within the Social Sciences and Humanities. Open science benefits the quality and value of research and scholarship. If open access is to benefit society as widely as possible, it is logical to include academic books. In a 2019 briefing paper, Science Europe reported that: “Open access to academic books must be considered in the wider open access policies developed by research institutions, funders, and governments.”
In recent years, Knowledge Exchange, a joint network of six key national organisations in Europe, has been working on gaining a better understanding …

Executive Summary
The last fifteen years have witnessed the emergence of a new role for academic libraries. Besides fulfilling their fundamental task of providing access to knowledge, besides being called everything from temples of knowledge to disturbing heterotopias, libraries have become one of the crucial stakeholders in the open access book publishing space. They act as funders for OA book fees, they support collaborative funding schemes, and sometimes they assume the role of publishers themselves.
In an attempt to create a sustainable publishing environment, in which OA books could blossom, it is therefore necessary to gain a sound understanding of …
