By 2047, Hong Kong’s “One Country, Two Systems” government regime will end, promoting the country’s integration into the People’s Republic of China (PRC). To ensure a smooth transition, the PRC has been issuing measures to promote integration by eliminating the border and other forms of geographic barriers that separate the two countries. But despite on-going practices of integration, Hong Kong continues to strengthen its border with China through infrastructural and bureaucratic means, reinforcing a British-colonial era border regime.
