Pilihan Kata Dan Konstruksi Perempuan Sunda Dalam Majalah Manglè: Kajian Linguistik Korpus Diakronik, Susi Yuliawati, Rahayu Surtiati Hidayat, F X. Rahyono, Deny A. Kwary

Paradigma: Jurnal Kajian Budaya

Gender identity, one of the most important social categories in people’s lives, is socially constructed, and language is claimed to have a significant role in constructing the gender identity. This paper studies the construction of Sundanese women through five Sundanese nouns referring to women found in the corpus of Manglè magazine, published between 1958–2013. The research employs a mixed-method design in which quantitative analysis is combined with qualitative analysis to investigate how the nouns referring to women are used to construct Sundanese women from the periods of Guided Democracy (1958–1965) to Reform Era (2004–2013). The quantitative analysis is used to …

The World Is Facing A Global Sand Crisis, Aurora Torres, Jianguo "Jack" Liu, Jodi Brandt, Kristen Lear Sep 2017

The World Is Facing A Global Sand Crisis, Aurora Torres, Jianguo "Jack" Liu, Jodi Brandt, Kristen Lear

Human-Environment Systems Research Center Faculty Publications and Presentations

When people picture sand spread across idyllic beaches and endless deserts, they understandably think of it as an infinite resource. But as we discuss in a just-published perspective in the journal Science, over-exploitation of global supplies of sand is damaging the environment, endangering communities, causing shortages and promoting violent conflict.

Analyzing The Potential Of Hybrid And Electric Off-Road Equipment In Reducing Carbon Emissions From Construction Industries, Matthew Holian, Jae-Ho Pyeon Sep 2017

Analyzing The Potential Of Hybrid And Electric Off-Road Equipment In Reducing Carbon Emissions From Construction Industries, Matthew Holian, Jae-Ho Pyeon

Mineta Transportation Institute

This report quantifies the likely impact recent improvements in emissions technology in the heavy construction equipment fleet will have on national and state-level carbon emissions from construction industries. Specific technologies examined in this report include hybrid and electric-powered off-road equipment. Innovation in the equipment manufacturing industry, and adoption of innovative technology by construction firms, is driven by a wide range of factors, some of which can be influenced by public policy. Therefore, this paper describes policies available to public decision makers at the local, state and national levels that impact equipment use and development decisions, including those that encourage the …

Drag: Spectacle,Transformance, And The Construction Of Gender Utopia, Tyler J. Henry May 2017

Drag: Spectacle,Transformance, And The Construction Of Gender Utopia, Tyler J. Henry

Undergraduate Honors Theses

We live in a world of constant performance. Simultaneously being performer and audience, we navigate every day situated in the suspension of disbelief due to society’s spectacle. We are continuously enacting, evaluating, providing feedback, and adjusting in order to perform just well enough to be accepted into mainstream society. Gender is often understood and constructed in rigid binaries where performing too much or too little can lead to exclusion from acceptance into society. However, there are some who purposefully perform in order to criticize the binaries and cultivate an area of limbo between masculine and feminine. I am referring to …

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Micro Learning through open educational resources (OERs) is becoming increasingly popular. However, adaptive micro learning support remains inadequate by current OER platforms. To address this, our smart system, Micro Learning as a Service (MLaaS), aims to deliver personalized OER with micro learning to satisfy their real-time needs.

Construction Of Sno2-Graphene Composite With Half-Supported Cluster Structure As Anode Toward Superior Lithium Storage Properties, Chengling Zhu, Zhixin Chen, Shenmin Zhu, Yao Li, Hui Pan, Xin Meng, Muhammad Imtiaz, Di Zhang Jan 2017

Construction Of Sno2-Graphene Composite With Half-Supported Cluster Structure As Anode Toward Superior Lithium Storage Properties, Chengling Zhu, Zhixin Chen, Shenmin Zhu, Yao Li, Hui Pan, Xin Meng, Muhammad Imtiaz, Di Zhang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Inspired by nature, herein we designed a novel construction of SnO2 anodes with an extremely high lithium storage performance. By utilizing small sheets of graphene oxide, the partitioned-pomegranate-like structure was constructed (SnO2@C@half-rGO), in which the porous clusters of SnO2 nanoparticles are partially supported by reduced graphene oxide sheets while the rest part is exposed (half-supported), like partitioned pomegranates. When served as anode for lithium-ion batteries, SnO2@C@half-rGO exhibited considerably high specific capacity (1034.5 mAh g−1 after 200 cycles at 100 mA g−1), superior rate performance and remarkable durability (370.3 mAh g−1 …

Impact Of Leadership Strategies On Perceived Climate Of Safety At The Construction Job Site, Joshua M. Estrin Jan 2017

Impact Of Leadership Strategies On Perceived Climate Of Safety At The Construction Job Site, Joshua M. Estrin

Department of Conflict Resolution Studies Theses and Dissertations

Despite the creation of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) more than 30 years ago, the construction industry is in conflict with itself. It is locked in a struggle to effectively keep its workforce protected from unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, or a combination of both. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), nearly 6.5 million people work at approximately 252,000 construction sites across the United States every day, with the fatal injury rate for the construction industry higher than the national average when compared to all industries. There have been many studies documenting these conditions, but no study …
