Renewable Energy Management In A Remote Area Using Modified Gravitational Search Algorithm, Sahand Ghavidel, Jamshid Aghaei, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Alireza Heidari Jan 2016

Renewable Energy Management In A Remote Area Using Modified Gravitational Search Algorithm, Sahand Ghavidel, Jamshid Aghaei, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Alireza Heidari

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In this paper, a small remote area which is located in Nigeria has been considered as a model to be tested by a managing scheme for providing both electricity and water. In this strategy, the groundwater is pumped into a water tank which can be later used for supplying required irrigation and drinking water. A PAT (Pump as Turbine) is used as a hybrid system for supplying electricity and water as well as storing water in the water tank. Also, a PV (photovoltaic plant), a package of batteries (BAT) in addition to a diesel ICE (internal combustion engine) are used …

A Novel Queue Management Policy For Delay-Tolerant Networks, Saeid Iranmanesh Jan 2016

A Novel Queue Management Policy For Delay-Tolerant Networks, Saeid Iranmanesh

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Delay-tolerant networks (DTNs) have attracted increasing attention from governments, academia and industries in recent years. They are designed to provide a communication channel that exploits the inherent mobility of trams, buses and cars. However, the resulting highly dynamic network suffers from frequent disconnections, thereby making node-to-node communications extremely challenging. Researchers have thus proposed many routing/forwarding strategies in order to achieve high delivery ratios and/or low latencies and/or low overheads. Their main idea is to have nodes store and carry information bundles until a forwarding opportunity arises. This, however, creates the following problems. Nodes may have short contacts and/or insufficient buffer …

The Impact Of Electronic Health Records On Risk Management Of Information Systems In Australian Residential Aged Care Homes, Tao Jiang, Ping Yu, David M. Hailey, Jun Ma, Jie Yang Jan 2016

The Impact Of Electronic Health Records On Risk Management Of Information Systems In Australian Residential Aged Care Homes, Tao Jiang, Ping Yu, David M. Hailey, Jun Ma, Jie Yang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

To obtain indications of the influence of electronic health records (EHR) in managing risks and meeting information system accreditation standard in Australian residential aged care (RAC) homes. The hypothesis to be tested is that the RAC homes using EHR have better performance in meeting information system standards in aged care accreditation than their counterparts only using paper records for information management. Content analysis of aged care accreditation reports from the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency produced between April 2011 and December 2013. Items identified included types of information systems, compliance with accreditation standards, and indicators of failure to meet …

Exploring Structure And Role Of Engineering Asset Management System In Production Organizations, Khaled O. El-Akruti, Richard Dwight, Tieling Zhang Jan 2016

Exploring Structure And Role Of Engineering Asset Management System In Production Organizations, Khaled O. El-Akruti, Richard Dwight, Tieling Zhang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Little has been done in literature on the structure of Engineering Asset Management System (EAMS) and its relationship to production and organizational strategy. In this paper, the position of an EAMS within an organizational structure and its strategic role within a production organizations strategy has been explored. It is argued that the structure and mechanism of EAMS play a key role in directing the production process and linking to the organizational strategy: the absence or inadequacies of asset-related activities cause insufficient production performance that negatively impacts the strategic achievement. Production Actions are mapped with reference to the activities of the …

Maintaining Pipeline Integrity Through Holistic Asset Management, Khaled O. El-Akruti, Tieling Zhang, Richard Dwight Jan 2016

Maintaining Pipeline Integrity Through Holistic Asset Management, Khaled O. El-Akruti, Tieling Zhang, Richard Dwight

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A review of the concept of engineering asset management (EAM) and its role in integrity management within the context of energy pipelines has been conducted. The EAM system is shown to be concerned with pipeline integrity assurance at any point of the asset life. The effectiveness of a holistic EAM approach to assuring pipeline integrity is explored through case studies for pipelines that transport high pressure natural gas or liquid petroleum. The research examines the EAM system activities, data available and information flow and decision mechanisms utilised in industry and their effectiveness in incorporating the management or control of coating …
