Despite the ease of creation, the web is ephemeral. The fleeting nature of websites present a challenge to repositories when a record needs to be preserved. The Graduate Center Library was recently presented with this challenge with the increase of submissions of online components to dissertations. This presentation focused on the need to capture a snapshot, the limitations of current normative practices and some alternative approaches.

The search for alternatives to high priced textbooks endures. The librarians at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, with the help of an IMLS Sparks! Ignition grant, decided to jump into the fray by creating the Open Access Course Reserves. It is a publicly available, curated repository that provides ready-made reading lists of free, copyright compliant (open access when possible), educational materials. The materials are selected to match typical syllabi and textbook contents and organized by discipline and course. Archivists have long debated the nature of archival internships and practicum requirements as components of archival education. Advocates cite these requirements as the best way for emerging archivists to acquire hands-on training, while critics worry they can be used to further student exploitation and a devaluation of professional archivists’ labor. This presentation examined requirements in graduate archives programs and compared them to accepted guidelines for internships in the archives profession and the American economy at large. Archivists are depicted in many different forms of pop culture, including books, television and films. These representations help shape how the world views archivists and situates the profession on the archival horizon. Building upon previous research in this area, this study aims to investigate how archivists are portrayed in film. Films involving archivists were selected and a content analysis of these films was conducted to address the following questions: is there an archivist in the film and how is the character portrayed?
