Oil Exploitation As A Factor Of Violent Conflict Between Sudan And South Sudan, Anne Hamilton
Oil Exploitation As A Factor Of Violent Conflict Between Sudan And South Sudan, Anne Hamilton
Anne Hamilton
Sudan was in a state of civil war for most of the years following independence in 1956, apart from a temporary respite between 1972 and 1983. After hostilities resumed, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) captured Leer from the government in March 1986, and the town became a stronghold of the rebel commander Riek Machar, who had been born there. In August 1991 Riek Machar broke away from John Garang's mainstream branch of the SPLM/A. Machar's breakaway faction was called the SPLM/A-Nasir faction from 1991 to 1993, and then the South Sudan Independence Army (SSIA) from 1994 to 1997. In …

How To Write An Annotated Bibliography, Larry Sheret
How To Write An Annotated Bibliography, Larry Sheret
Larry Sheret
Writing an annotated bibliography is an effective way to evaluate and manage information. This tutorial uses CBE citation style, but the information applies to annotated bibliographies in any style, except for minor formatting differences. (Length: 2min 40sec) This video tutorial describes the four elements of an annotated bibliography: 1) the credentials and affiliations of the author 2) an article summary 3) a comparison/analysis with other articles 4) an evaluation of the significance of the article to the research being done

Searching Project Muse With Library Of Congress Subject Headings, Larry Sheret
Larry Sheret
Project MUSE is the only scholarly journal database that indexes all articles with Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCHS). The tutorial demonstrates one of three subject heading search options provided by MUSE, and it shows the speed and accuracy of subject searching. (8 MB, 2min 55sec)

Swot Analysis (Using Bsp And Lexisnexis), Larry Sheret
Larry Sheret
A SWOT analysis looks at a company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. This three minute video will show you where and how to search for a company's SWOT. (30 MB 3min 1 sec)
How To Narrow A Search For Scholarly Articles, Larry Sheret
How To Narrow A Search For Scholarly Articles, Larry Sheret
Larry Sheret
This video demonstrates how to select appropriate search terms to narrow the scope of searches in the ScienceDirect database. Natural language searches are often more effective when searching the full text of an article. Once the researcher has located one or more articles, the researcher is more likely to identify any jargon or scientific terms used for the topic. A second revised search of the abstract field can be performed using the newly identified terms, often yielding more precise and relevant results. (5.4 Mb, 2min 33sec)

Aspectos Democraticos De La Ley De Ordenamiento Territorial Y Usos Del Suelo De La Provincia De Mendoza Nª 8051, Luis Gabriel Escobar Blanco

In these times when direct forms of democracy burst before formal institutions, the Land Use Planning Law in the Province of Mendoza is presented as valid and democratic alternative, which integrates direct citizen participation with the constitutional representative principle, contemplating identity cultural as a valid indicator for the management modelThis Law Nº 8051 formalizes and concrete the spirit of the quintessential democratic in three principles: government of the people, by the people and for the people. And we add our tradition the principle "the people want to know what it is"
A Collaboration Between Digital And Reference: Solutions For Copyright Clearance And Outreach, Heather Leary
A Collaboration Between Digital And Reference: Solutions For Copyright Clearance And Outreach, Heather Leary
Heather Leary, Ph.D.
Two of the biggest challenges institutional repositories face are outreach and copyright clearance. In this webinar, Heather Leary, previously Scholarly Communications and IR Librarian at Utah State University, explores the use of subject librarians for copyright clearance and outreach and discusses the workflow used at Utah State University's Digital Commons repository. The webinar addresses benefits for the repository and subject librarians, the value and sustainability of such a program, and how further relationships can be built between departments. During her tenure managing the repository at Utah State University, Heather Leary helped launch over 70 SelectedWorks pages, organized an IR Day …

Runx2 Tandem Repeats And The Evolution Of Facial Length In Placental Mammals, Marie Pointer, Jason Kamilar, Vera Warmuth, Stephen Chester, Frédéric Delsuc, Nicholas Mundy, Robert Asher, Brenda Bradley
Jason M. Kamilar
Background When simple sequence repeats are integrated into functional genes, they can potentially act as evolutionary ‘tuning knobs’, supplying abundant genetic variation with minimal risk of pleiotropic deleterious effects. The genetic basis of variation in facial shape and length represents a possible example of this phenomenon. Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), which is involved in osteoblast differentiation, contains a functionally-important tandem repeat of glutamine and alanine amino acids. The ratio of glutamines to alanines (the QA ratio) in this protein seemingly influences the regulation of bone development. Notably, in domestic breeds of dog, and in carnivorans in general, the ratio …

Robert G. Waite
The problem of wayward and destitute youths plagued New York City throughout the later 19th century. During these years an estimated 40,000 children lived much of their lives on the streets. A number of civic reformers launched a number of programs to combat these problem, to aid the children. This article focuses on the problem of the wayward youths. The essay is available on-line at the website newyorkhistoryreview.com (see attached) and it will be published in the annual volume for 2012.

Between “Metaphysics Of The Stone Age” And The “Brave New World”: H.L.A. Hart On The Law’S Assumptions About Human Nature, Péter Cserne
Péter Cserne
This paper analyses H.L.A. Hart’s views on the epistemic character of the law’s assumptions about human behaviour, as articulated in Causation in the Law and Punishment and Responsibility. Hart suggests that the assumptions behind legal doctrines typically combine common sense factual beliefs, moral intuitions, and philosophical theories of earlier ages with sound moral principles, and empirical knowledge. An important task of legal theory is to provide a ‘rational and critical foundation’ for these doctrines. This does not only imply conceptual clarification in light of an epistemic ideal of objectivity but also involves legal theorists in ‘enlightenment’ about empirical facts, ‘demystification’ …
