Libraries have opportunities to enhance traditional library services with iPhones. Searching the iTunes store for relevant apps adaptable or targeted for library use is cumbersome. In the past, librarians have highlighted their resources by developing significant annotated bibliographies and subject guides for their users. The presenters have begun using the program, LibGuides, to produce an appography (annotated subject driven bibliography) that guides users to helpful apps from the iTunes store. We anticipate appographies will be the bibliographies of the 21st century.

This research presents an analysis of references collected by an established group of users who share a common interest on a social computing website. The purpose is to demonstrate how social computing functions as an instrument for measuring scholarly communication. The goal is twofold: to reveal how an analysis of the references collected by interested users compares to and complements citation studies.

Citizenship in the Humanities and Social Sciences is a selective bibliography consisting of citations to works published during the years 2000-2009 on citizenship-related topics in the humanities and social sciences. Primarily consisting of books/chapters and scholarly journal articles, the bibliography also includes other materials (case studies, reports, dissertations, and working papers) for which scholarship, authority and relevance have been established. Most cited works are published in the English language, although articles published in other languages using a Latin alphabet are also included.
