Gla Installs Officers, Announces 2010 Award Winners

The article presents the Georgia Library Association's (GLA) installation of officers and announcement of award winners at the Georgia Council of Media Organizations (COMO) 2010 annual conference. President Carolyn Fuller, first vice president Elizabeth L. Bagley and second vice president Pat Carterette will lead the organization in 2011. Sarah Steiner, Doctor Melvin Steely and Brad Dexter respectively received the Bob Richardson Memorial Award, the Charles Beard Library Advocacy Award and the GLA Library Support Services Award.

The article presents the highlights of the Georgia Library Day held by the Georgia Library Association, Georgia Public Library Service, Georgia Association for Instructional Technology and the Georgia Library Media Association on March 10, 2010. Governor Sonny Perdue signed a proclamation that declares March 10 as Georgia Library Day. Senators Seth Harp of Midland and Jack Hill of Reidsville were also present. The presentations in the morning were followed by a visit to the state Capitol and a lunch at the Floyd Building.

The article covers issues related to the Georgia Library Association (GLA) as of April 2010. The GLA Mid-Winter Planning Conference at Clayton State University on January 29 had record attendance. It cites the success of the inaugural Library Photo Contest of Georgia, with over 70 entries for the 10 categories for photographs taken between January 1 to February 14. A workshop on Frontline Advocacy will be conducted by American Library Association (ALA) president Camila Alire at DeKalb Public Library in Decatur on April 26.

The author shares her thoughts on being president of the Georgia Library Association (GLA) in 2010. She reportedly welcomes the use of Facebook by librarian-members to complement personal meetings on ideas for GLA as well as their attendance at the GLA Mid-Winter Planning Conference. It is stated that the author plans to include the "Unshelved" comic strip in every GLA issue for the year and also encourages members to invite new people to join the group.
