Everyone now knows what the "BS" in the "BCS" stands for but there seems to be some doubt remaining about the "C." Some suggest "computer," some say "compound," some say it is a redundant statement of the "S." Whatever it is, several other things are now clear.

Gender Differences In Tourism Destination: Implications For Tourism Marketers, Marie Ryan, Nadine Henley, Geoffery Soutar
Gender Differences In Tourism Destination: Implications For Tourism Marketers, Marie Ryan, Nadine Henley, Geoffery Soutar
Research outputs pre 2011
This paper examines the criteria that males and females use to make tourism destination choices and whether such differences result in different destination preferences. Males and females may apply different criteria to make tourism destination choices. Respondents were asked to rank eight popular WA holiday destinations, using twelve attributes. Comparisons between males and females were conducted using t-tests, perceptual mapping and external preference analysis. Females rated each attribute consistently more important than males and, overall, consistently high. This finding is interpreted with reference to Meyers- Levy’s (1986) selectivity hypothesis and related to other research in the marketing context on information …
New Communication Technologies, Organizational Culture, And The Creation Of Innovative Learning Environments, Denise Scott
New Communication Technologies, Organizational Culture, And The Creation Of Innovative Learning Environments, Denise Scott
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Today's organizations face an economic climate that is globalizing, increasing customer demands for products and services that meet their unique needs and the fast pace of technological developments. Organizations require the effective use of new communication technologies as a means of sharing information and expanding capacity for innovation. The main question for this research is: When new communication technologies are introduced into organizations, how do they work together with existing cultural assumptions to produce an innovative, learning environment within the organization? The research design involves conducting moderately structured interviews with organizational leaders in four diverse organizations: Ingram Book Company, Service …

Unfortunately for those whose businesses rely on the Internet, an increasing amount of legal conflict is also arising in reaction to this new business medium. As attorneys and the courts attempt to sort out the Internet’s legal status quo, both are considering such pressing substantive issues as electronic contracts, privacy, trademark, copyright, defamation, computer crimes, censorship, and taxation. It is imperative that information system professionals become aware of how evolving Internet law will affect the medium they are charged with administrating. An informed IS community is also much more capable of mounting legal and political challenges to law that might …

There have been headlines over the past week about crime statistics from the National Football League. Jeff Benedict and Don Yaeger in their new book, Pros and Cons: The Criminals Who Play in the NFL, claim that one in five (21%) of all the players in the NFL have been charged with at least one serious crime. Among these are two murders, seven rape charges, 45 counts of domestic violence and 42 charges of assault. What is worse, say Yaeger and Benedict, the National Football League continues to employ these kinds of people at huge salaries and the NFL seems …

On Sport and Society
The intercollegiate athletic forces are at it again and as usual the action comes from the king of college sport, football. At Auburn, one of the NCAA's more problematic programs, Terry Bowden is gone as the head football coach of Auburn's beloved Tigers. As we have come to expect there is nothing simple about the disappearance of a head coach in the heartland of college football.

The Nba Lockout And The Players, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
It has been a difficult week as I try to cope with the realization that the Atlanta Braves are in the tank, the Yankees are about to finish the job of obliterating the field, and a group of psychiatrists has determined that Mike Tyson is not the boy next door. These matters have weighed heavily on my soul while I watch the NBA sliding into suicidal mode.

There was Chuck Knoblauch standing at first base holding an umpiring clinic for Ted Hendry during the 12th inning of game two of the ALCS. Chuck now admits, "I should have went and got the ball." When the Texas A&M English major failed to went, the runners did went, and were quickly gone, with Enrique Wilson circling the bases and scoring the go-ahead run.

"Flo Jo" And Performance-Enhancing Drugs, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
The death of Florence Griffith Joyner has been on my mind now for almost two weeks as I consider what I might say about it, if anything. Having commented on drugs and sport in connection with the Tour de France in July and advocating an opening of sport to the use of all drugs, Flo Jo's death brought me back to those comments for further consideration.

A Political Model Of Monetary Policy With Application To The Real Fed Funds Rate, Tony Caporale, Kevin B. Grier
A Political Model Of Monetary Policy With Application To The Real Fed Funds Rate, Tony Caporale, Kevin B. Grier
Economics and Finance Faculty Publications
We construct an empirical model of U.S. monetary policy assuming that the Federal Reserve is an ordinary federal bureaucracy. We use the real Federal Funds rate as our policy measure and show the existence of significant executive, legislative, and bureaucratic influence on the real rate of interest from 1961 to 1996. We find that presidential party is an adequate statistical measure of executive influence and that the voting scores of the Senate Banking Committee leadership best represent legislative influence. We argue that political changes cause systematic and predictable changes in monetary policy.

Owing to rapid internationalization of business activity, human resource development (HRD) has become increasingly important in recent years. This is especially true when domestic human resource management takes on international dimensions as it deals more with multicultural workforce. International HRD, much of it embodied in cross-cultural training, has been proposed by many scholars as a means of facilitating more effective interaction among managers, employees and customers from different national-cultural backgrounds. Despite the need for cross-cultural skills and the shortage of managers who possess these skills, most human resource decision-makers do nothing in terms of cross-cultural training for their employees. Studies …

Among the less frequently discussed records being pursued across the diamond landscape these days is the single season wins record. Ninety-two years ago, in 1906, the Chicago Cubs, - yes, the Chicago Cubs - set the single season record for most wins at 116 games. The Yankees recent mini-slump has diminished their chances of reaching that lofty height but they still have an outside shot at it.
