A Descriptive Study Of Welfare Services Audience, Allen B. Alexander

This study conducted an audience analysis investigating welfare attitudes for Welfare Services, a division of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The data and results of this study were used by Welfare Services to prepare and present its message to its Mormon and non-Mormon audience. The sample population consisted of 170 respondents (130 Mormons and 40 non-Mormons). The study examined three areas: (1) Where people go when in need of assistance; (2) Rights and obligations associated with assistance; (3) Attitudinal perspectives of welfare and assistance.

This historical/descriptive study analyzes the speaking career of Belle S. Spafford and attempts to document the relationship between her speaking and her influence with her peers. For over fifty years, the dedicated woman served as a spokesman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the National Council of Women, briding the gap between the secular and religious world of women. A rhetorical analysis of four speeches indicates the following findings: Mrs. Spafford appealed to her audiences through a focus on shared values; she had credibility because of her positions of authority and used it wisely; she effectively …

The Church News supplement to the Deseret News has been part of the Salt Lake City newspaper for over fifty years. It has evolved from a weekly eight-page tabloid religious section of the daily newspaper to a weekly magazine of feature articles, photographs, editorials and news of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Perceived Similarity And Value Agreement Identification With Parents Among Lds Adolescent Males, Thomas Lee Partridge

Four models of parental identification (perceived similarity with father, perceived similarity with mother, agreement with important parental values and agreement with more trivial parental values) were constructed. The effects of several parenting behaviors (i.e., support, undifferentiated control, guilt and love withdrawl) as well as various structural variables upon the parental identification of a sample of LDS adolescent males were tested. Data were obtained from 565 adolescents and their parents and the data for each boy was linked with that of his parents.
