Sociological Analysis Of The Big Brother Movement, Margaret Ann Welch

This thesis is a test of what is implied above. There are social movements which do not conform to the prevailing theories, yet which fit the definition of what constitutes a social movement. The big brother movement is the case selected for this study. This thesis is based upon a history of the beginning, spread, and progressive organization of that movement, and the question raised is the extent to which such a history reveals the supposed characteristics emphasized in prevailing theories.

The purpose of the study was to analyze and evaluate the formation and the development of the union under investigation. Most importantly, it further proposed by disciplined observation to consider the influences which union members felt had been exerted by union membership upon their lives, and to explore the role of the union, as one of many factors, in conditioning the social relationships of its members.

Socio-Economic Factors Influencing The Intent Of Rural Youths To Migrate From Emery, San Juan, Kane, And Piute Counties Of Utah, Abdul Ghani Joseph Habbab

Rural communities in Utah continue to lose large numbers of their population. Counties with the highest birth rate are, in the main, those which have decreased most or remained relatively stationary in recent years. Rural migration presents a problem to the communities involved and to the individuals who move.

Prior to the start of World War II, J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI declared dead the criminal networks established by violent career gangsters during the Prohibition Era. By 1950, America’s attention was focused on the Cold War, Communism, and suspected Soviet subversion plots.

As the FBI continually denied the existence of organized crime, a new American mafia was establishing legitimate businesses as covers for racketeering, drug trafficking, and loansharking. Bribes to local police and politicians bought protection from investigation.
