Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study is an attempt to follow the development of the group of children who attended the Mental Hygiene Clinic Nursery School of Louisville, Kentucky in its first three years, September, 1939 through May, 1942. The children were studied on a comparative basis of their behavior in the two school situations - nursery school in 1939-1942 and elementary school in 1946. The study not only considers the child's behavior in the classroom, but also attempts to evaluate the effects at personality and environmental influences upon the child's school adjustment - his health, conditions in the home, and mental development. The Fight Of Alexander Howat For The Right To Strike, Thomas L. Monninger
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
The right to strike is a privilege held dear and guarded closely by all organized labor. This is the most effective weapon with which organized labor can deal with capital and management. Alexander Howat, as President of District 14 of the United Mine Workers of America, vigorously opposed all attempts to restrict this cherished right to strike.

A Study In The Classification, Distribution, And Sequence Of The Archaeological Cultures Of Missouri, Carl Haley Chapman
Anthropology ETDs
The orderly arrangement of the archeological cultures of Missouri, showing areal and temporal relationships, appears to be one of the major problems in that state at the present time. It is proposed to undertake a classification of the known archeological cultures by means of the McKern Taxonomic System, to point out the known distribution of each culture within the state, and to undertake a tentative sequence of the classified cultures by means of evidence found in Missouri and in surrounding areas.

A Study Of The District Health System In New Mexico, Patricia Hannah
Political Science ETDs
Before an examination of the administration of the district health system is made, some of the background will be discussed; that is, the factors leading to the establishment of the act. Many of the objections which were raised at the time are still heard and some new ones have been voiced since the system has been active. These will be outlined. The analysis of the system will be made by examining (1) the problems of the state in terms of geographic, economic and social factors, (2) the functions of the personnel engaged in administering the service of the public health …
Some Aspects Of Protection, The Cost Equalization Principle, And The Flexible Clause In The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Of 1930, Peter J. Turano
Some Aspects Of Protection, The Cost Equalization Principle, And The Flexible Clause In The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Of 1930, Peter J. Turano
Political Science ETDs
It is the purpose of this work to afford a purview of the purblind adhesion of a substantial segment of the American people and their constituted representatives to obsolescent and inopportune autarchic economic policies spawned by a post-war introversive nationalism. Refutation in abundance of an enlightened commercial policy is discernable in the insensibility of the dominant political party to the panorama of altering conceptions of international responsibility, organization, and control. This work attempts to render an exposition of the particular facets of the Tariff Act of 1900 which accord an explication, through an examination of some principles upon which were …

An Economic History Of The Mescalero Apache Indians, T.T. Mccord Jr.
Economics ETDs
It is the purpose of this study (1) to indicate the origin and development of the Mescalero Apache Indian economy; (2) to show the reasons for its development; (3) to present a probable trend in the future of the Mescalero Apache Indian economically, as based upon past and present tribal economics.
This study has been made in the belief that there is a definite need to a fuller knowledge of the too-little-known economic history of the Mescalero Apache Indians. The roots of their economic philosophy go back many centuries, and thus it is important to trace, analyze and evaluate the …

This is an examination of the fundamental developments in the history of the National Retail Credit Association, the leading association of retail credit men, giving special consideration to the idea of credit control. The credit abuses before any form of cooperation or control evolved are presented in the first chapter. All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Open country farming in Utah came late in the pioneer period having been preceded by compact settlement in villages. These villages were located on mountain streams near mouths of canyons on higher ground. Reasons for compact settlement were: (1) Early environment probably influenced many of the Utah settlers who came from New England were villages were patterned after the compact European agricultural village. (2) Compact settlement was basic to the plan for the "City of Zion" envisaged by Latter Day Saint leaders in 1833. In Utah, settlement in such villages resulted from adherence of members to precepts of L.D.S. Church …

The Problem Of The Chronically Ill In Louisville, Kentucky, 1946., Dinard S. Carr
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Although the problems and implications of chronic illness will be discussed in their broader outlines, the purpose of this study is to see more specifically how chronic illness affects a particular group of patients. The questions, what are the problems and the needs of the chronically ill, what is the community doing to meet those needs, what are the facilities and what should they be, will be related to a representative sample of Louisville General Hospital patients. Many civic groups in Louisville have been articulate in expressing the need for planning for better convalescent and chronic care, among them the …

A Study Of Hiram W. Johnson's Public Speaking Technique And Of His Speech Composition : As Manifested In Five Of His Speeches On United States Foreign Policy, Carl W. Fuller
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
In the third and fourth decades of the twentieth century Hiram W. Johnson was one of themost important men in Ameican public life. He attained his eminence through the power of the spoken wrod; as a master wielder of that power he is deserving subject for a study to which this thesis claim to be only the plodding and inept introduction.
This thesis does not pretend to be an exhaustive study of Johnson's methods for three reason: 1. Its analysis of Johnson's speech composition is restricted to the third of the developmental stages listed above; 2. speeches selected for analyisis …

The Role Of Cooperatives In Chinese Economic Reconstruction Since 1928, Alma Schocke
The Role Of Cooperatives In Chinese Economic Reconstruction Since 1928, Alma Schocke
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The study of Chinese economic and social problems requires that certain fundamental Chinese conditions be kept constantly in mind by the Western student, lest he attempt to analyze from the contemporary economic and social viewpoints of his own country. Accomplishments and plans must both be considered in relation to what has gone before and what is within the realm of possibility under given conditions, rather than by comparison with accomplishments and plans in other countries where the basic situation is entirely different.
The object of this paper is to place cooperatives in relation to the to the reconstruction as a …

An Analysis Of Twelve Speeches Of Parley Parker Pratt, Mormon Orator, Morris M. Clinger
An Analysis Of Twelve Speeches Of Parley Parker Pratt, Mormon Orator, Morris M. Clinger
Theses and Dissertations
The chief purpose of this investigation is to determine the elements of speech style, the motive appeals, and the use of the elements of interest which play the most characteristic roles in twelve of Parley P. Pratt's sermons. While all the speeches that Pratt delivered have not been studied, since there are likely hundreds of them of which we have no record, it is thought that this study is sufficiently broad to warrant the conclusions that the writer has drawn.
A brief biography is included as a part of this study that a better understanding of the man might be …
