Trends In Kansas State Governmental Revenue Receipts And Expenditure, 1880-1934, Vernon Thomas Clover

Master's Theses

The main purpose of this thesis is to point out the significant trends in governmental revenue receipts and expenditures in Kansas during the period from 1880 through 1934. Especial attention is given to the state government as opposed to the local governments. The discussion in connection with the latter is confined to property tax levies, expenditures for roads, streets and bridges, and for education. Few new or startling facts are presented. The trends shown however, are based upon definite statistics and therefore give the conclusions that are drawn the element of accuracy which has usually been lacking in the popular …

Erosion Control In Chaco Canyon, New Mexico For The Preservation Of Archaeological Sites, William Chauvenet Jun 1935

Erosion Control In Chaco Canyon, New Mexico For The Preservation Of Archaeological Sites, William Chauvenet

Anthropology ETDs

No accurate maps have been made of the whole region covered by this report. A very excellent aerial survey has been made of the Navajo Reservation, but this does not extend more than eight miles east of Wijiji, and does not show quite all of the Chaco canyon. No profile or cross-section of Chaco Canyon exists, except for the maps made by the National Parks Service. As these cover only about three-quarters of a mile, they are not of great assistance in matters concerned with the grade of the stream bed. They are a valuable start, however, and they have …

A Study Of Certain Economic Factors Involved In The Organization And Management Of Poultry Farms In Utah, Robert L. Wrigley Jr.

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

In the organization and management of poultry farming many problems arise which call for a solution. Among such problems are the following: The amount of floor space per hen which will prove the most economical, the value of electric lights in poultry houses, amount of labor which can be profitably invested in a poultry flock, and the amount of feed which can be economically fed to poultry.

There are many influences which determine poultry profits that cannot be controlled directly, but the factors mentioned here are largely within the control of the poultryman. He should, therefore, direct them as far …

No attempt will be made in this thesis to establish definitely the exact measure of this influence, since to do this with any degree of accuracy would be impossible in the absence of an adequate knowledge of the total conditions which accompanied publication of the items in the column. An …

Comparison Of Type Faces, Norbert J. Duehren Apr 1935

Comparison Of Type Faces, Norbert J. Duehren

Bachelors’ Theses

The journalist, by the very nature of his task, is constantly working, directly or indirectly, with type. It is the medium through which he expresses himself; his whole effectiveness depends upon the efficiency of that medium. If he wishes to be an advertiser, publicity director, layout man, make-up editor, magazine editor, or any one of a dozen related fields, his position is aggravated--he must have at least a rudimentary knowledge of the type with which he is to work.

A Study Of Inequalities In Farm Real Estate Assessment In South Dakota, Norman Victor Strand Jan 1935

A Study Of Inequalities In Farm Real Estate Assessment In South Dakota, Norman Victor Strand

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

One of the few beneficial effects of the recent business depression has been the focusing of an increased amount of attention on taxes and tax systems. Research agencies, tax commissions and citizens tax organizations have given the matter thorough study. As a result of increased knowledge of the widespread havoc caused by excessive taxation of general property, many states which formerly obtained most of their revenue from general property taxes, have resorted to supplementary forms of taxation, such as income taxes, sales taxes, corporation taxes, and others. It is beyond the scope of this paper to consider these sources of …

A History Of The Productions Of The Little Theatre, 1933-1935, Demarcus Brown

Pacific Little Theatre was organized eleven years ago to fulfill a definite need and has since grown slowly and steadily into a most active producing unit, serving both school and community. Indeed Pacific Little Theatre can be taken as an excellent specific example of the contribution which can be made to campus and community life by the college aside from its main function as fundamental ground for students in the theatre arts.

The Public Life And Achievements Of James Duval Phelan, Jean Tully

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

As a figure in the American period of California history, Mr. James D. Phelan's achievements were an outstanding example of what an honest man can do in politics. First of all, I have endeavored to show his contributions to the city of San Francisco. There is hardly any field of San Francisco life in which James D. Phelan did not leave a tremendous influence. The politics of his term as mayor were a shining model of clean and progressive measures.

As senator he kept the interest of California at heart. Through his work at the World's Columbian Exposition, he made …

A Study Of Economic Activity In South Dakota, Glenn Aldrich Scott

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

It is undoubtedly true that now, more than at any time previously, statistical analyses hold an increasingly important place in the business world. It is decidedly important to be the man in business, whether he be farmer, manufacturer, or retailer, that he knows what the trend of business has been in the past, and what the current trend is, so that he may anticipate changes which statistical analyses show are taking place in his particular phase of business or industry. As it applies to smaller units of business, so does it apply to the whole business structure. This study has …
