The Reference Department at Loyola Marymount University’s (LMU) William H. Hannon Library experimented with using the Gimlet question tracking system to record statistics on all encounters at their new “almost 24/7” Information Desk. This workshop will chronicle the implementation of Gimlet at the Information Desk and highlight the data analysis techniques that led to several advancements in staffing and service.

Drupal is one of top tech topics in libraries right now. Academic libraries think very carefully about how they design their websites, and more and more libraries look at Drupal as a framework for their website development, as well as a cohesive interface for gathering content coming from different silos. In this paper we highlight the high degree of similarity that we observed across the websites of academic libraries in the United States, and we analyze the use of open source content management systems, with an emphasis on Drupal, in the development of these websites.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to quantify recent changes in students' use of laptops in one academic library and to consider the potential role of new high‐tech library spaces on laptop use.
Design/methodology/approach – Instead of relying on standard library exit and entrance counts, this study was based on brief, structured observations of library spaces, including counts of laptop use. By conducting such observations over regular intervals in both new and pre‐existing library spaces, the authors were able to observe changes in laptop use across both time and type of library space.
