This study explores the concept of resistance through a qualitative research study by focusing on the occupation of surfing by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. The concept and acts of resistance have seldom been discussed in occupational science literature in addressing these communities' barriers. The frameworks include occupational justice, postcolonialism, and collective occupations that provide a layout of why and how current grass-roots efforts of communities marginalized from a meaningful activity utilize the meaningful activity as a vehicle for liberation. Its considerations range from the geopolitical to the strategic and down to the tactical levels of war. WLBZ radio evolved from the passion of Thompson Guernsey, an amateur radio buff from Dover-Foxcroft who began experimenting with radio at the age of thirteen. As noted in a piece written by Fred Thompson in The History of Broadcasting in Maine: the First Fifty Years, Guernsey, considered by some to be an eccentric genius, began with homemade receivers and transmitters and an amateur license granted in 1921. After graduating from the University of Maine in 1926, Guernsey began operating WLBZ as a commercial broadcast station from Dover-Foxcroft.

Irvin "Buzz" Caverly, Jr. began working at Baxter State Park in 1960 as Park Ranger I immediately after graduating from Lee Academy in Lee, Maine. In 1982, 22 years after first being hired as a ranger, Caverly was selected to be the Baxter State Park Director, a position he would remain in until his retirement in 2005. Caverly remained active with the park, accepting an appointment from Governor Baldacci in 2007 to serve as the Baxter Park Wilderness Trust Fund Commissioner.

Collection, (1917-2023) includes papers, personal correspondence, and publications regarding former Governor Percival P. Baxter (1876-1969) and Baxter State Park. …

I started from O'Sullivan's Handbook of Irish Folklore (that's where the basic structure comes from), and then I adapted it to the scene here in the Northeast by adding some questions and changing others. For any one of the aspects covered here, you can get more suggestions by looking al O'Sullivan's work.

I don't recommend trying to work straight through this guide with an informant. Nor do I particularly recommend interviewing with "guide in hand," and I'm dead against it for the first interview. Read the Guide through a few times …

A collection featuring two sets of interviews. The first was conducted from 1969-1973 under the auspices of the Maine State Federated Labor Council. Topics range widely over the spectrum of organized labor issues in Maine, but seem to deal primarily with unions, union organizing, and elections. Interviewees include top ranking union officials as well as lobstermen, longshoremen, bricklayers, quarry workers, textile and paper millworkers, sulfite workers, iron workers, shipbuilders, railroad workers, typesetters, building trade workers, electricians, garment workers, and shoe makers. The “Wildfire Loose” Collection consists of a series of 37 interviews conducted by Joyce Butler in preparation for her book of the same title about the fires in Maine in October 1947. The interviews cover geographic areas in York, Oxford, and Hancock Counties including the communities of Kennebunk, Cape Porpoise, Goose Rocks, Kennebunkport, Saco, Biddeford, East Waterboro, Brownfield, Somesville, and Bar Harbor. Donated in 1979. When possible, obituaries for informants were collected by Special Collections staff as additional documentation of informants.
