Inclusion has been identified as a key component of successful approaches to organisational diversity management. To date, the inclusion literature has predominantly used quantitative methodology to study visible forms of diversity such as gender and ethnicity. Invisible forms of diversity, such as sexual orientation diversity, have received limited research attention, despite Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual (LGB) employees facing significantly higher rates of bullying and discrimination in the workplace than their heterosexual colleagues. Racial diversity in the medical field remains elusive. Actively engaging high school students from communities underrepresented in medicine (URiM) through pipeline programs has been identified as a viable strategy to support diversification of the U.S. physician population. However, students’ perspectives toward these programs remains unclear. In this study, we aim to elicit insights of URiM students matriculating to postsecondary education who participated in the Doctors of Tomorrow (DoT) program to better understand their experiences. Home-School Relationships: A Qualitative Study With Diverse Families, Betty Cardona, Sachin Jain, Kathy Canfield-Davis

The Qualitative Report

This qualitative case study explored how families from diverse cultural backgrounds understood family involvement in the context of early childhood care and educational settings. Participants in the study included nine members from six families who had children enrolled in three early childhood care and education programs. The primary method of data collection included in-depth interviews with the parents of these children. A second data source was obtained through non-participant observations in each of the three programs. Findings revealed that the way families understand parent involvement is strongly influenced by issues of ethnicity, social class, level of education, and language.

Educators from all realms of education who engage in in-depth conversations and reflections about personal experiences and perspectives related to diversity are significantly important to the cultural understandings in Education. This paper is a narrative analysis of how teachers who were enrolled in a Master's Program from two university campuses of the same predominantly White university participated in an in-depth look at their diverse cultural experiences through reflection and dialogue.
