Project Management Principles For Optimizing Publication Productivity Of Mixed Methods Studies, Abigail Baim-Lance, Anthony Onwuegbuzie, Jennifer Wisdom
Project Management Principles For Optimizing Publication Productivity Of Mixed Methods Studies, Abigail Baim-Lance, Anthony Onwuegbuzie, Jennifer Wisdom
The Qualitative Report
Mixed methods research is increasingly valued, although little attention has been placed on how to execute such projects well to achieve optimal publication for impact. Multiple publications from a single study allow scholars to explicate findings that cannot be contained in a single article and which address different aspects of study findings. This article contributes to the fields of mixed methods research by building on their roots in pragmatism, which we argue calls for effective research studies resulting in published findings. This article proposes a project management framework and describes how to optimize mixed methods manuscript production during each of …

Something For Everyone: A Review Of Qualitative Inquiry And Research Design: Choosing Among Five Approaches, Cecilia Tarnoki, Katheryne Puentes
The Qualitative Report
Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design: Choosing Among Five Approaches (2018), by John W. Creswell and Cheryl N. Poth was written for anyone who is considering themselves to be researchers or interested in learning more about qualitative research. As students in doctoral programs studying family therapy at Nova Southeastern University, we felt that parts of the text were explicitly tailored toward the social sciences; however, the chapters are useful for anyone interested in qualitative research from many angles and aspects.
Difficult Questions For Difficult Decisions: A Book Review, Jessica Popham
Difficult Questions For Difficult Decisions: A Book Review, Jessica Popham
The Qualitative Report
Qualitative Researching goes beyond a simple how-to book. While it is “suitable for all levels” and “easy to follow”, Qualitative Researching poses difficult questions to help the researcher become both critical and creative. Jennifer Mason helps the reader gets actively involved in the research process with an “investigative energy” in which she walks the reader through different ideas. A thorough and well thought out book, Qualitative Researching helps those designing a research project build a strong foundation by examining each step of the process through challenging questions.
Applying A Total Quality Framework To Qualitative Research Design: A Review, Paula Boros
Applying A Total Quality Framework To Qualitative Research Design: A Review, Paula Boros
The Qualitative Report
In Applied Qualitative Research Design: A Total Quality Framework Approach, Margaret R. Roller and Paul J. Lavrakas present their Total Quality Framework (TQF) designed to help researchers understand qualitative research is required to be creditable, analyzable, transparent, and useful. The authors show how qualitative researchers can utilize these four TQR fundamental elements to identify strengths and limitations of their qualitative methods and design process.
An Expose Of The Relationship Between Paradigm, Method And Design In Research, Godswill Makombe Prof
An Expose Of The Relationship Between Paradigm, Method And Design In Research, Godswill Makombe Prof
The Qualitative Report
It is crucial that any research inquiry be guided by a paradigm. However, many early career researchers do not mention the research paradigm guiding their inquiry. Furthermore, qualitative and quantitative methods are sometimes erroneously referred to as research paradigms or research designs. Experienced researchers often use the terms research paradigm, research methods and research design in a loose and confusing manner. Although it is reasonable to assume that experienced researchers do understand the distinction and relationship between the three concepts, the loose use of the concepts leads to confusion among early career researchers, especially Master’s and PhD students. By using …

Before You Graduate, Read This Book–Research Design: Creating Robust Approaches For The Social Sciences (Gorard, 2013), Michael L. Clancy
The Qualitative Report
Research Design: Creating Robust Approaches for the Social Sciences (Gorard, 2013) provides an easy - to - use design typology, as well as good practices and warnings, to help social scientists improve their research skills. Based on his experience, the author explains the concept of research design (as opposed to research methods), and shows the importance of carefully selected sample groups, appropriate research claims, and logical research warrants. The target audience is primarily social science researchers, but the subjects covered are applicable to any research field. The reviewer recommends Research Design as both a textbook and a reference.
Getting To Grips With Bricolage: A Personal Account, Christopher Wibberley
Getting To Grips With Bricolage: A Personal Account, Christopher Wibberley
The Qualitative Report
This paper presents a personal account of how a PhD supervisor came to an understanding of an approach to research that was unfamiliar to him. Additionally it addresses the question of what makes the approach, in this case bricolage, an acceptable format for academic work and in particular PhD study. Bricolage is a relatively little used approach to research; therefore, researchers utilizing bricolage as a research design have less exemplary texts to draw on in coming to their own understanding of this approach to research. This paper presents an account of getting to grips with bricolage as a way of …
Ten Steps For Conceptualizing And Conducting Qualitative Research Studies In A Pragmatically Curious Manner, Ronald J. Chenail
Ten Steps For Conceptualizing And Conducting Qualitative Research Studies In A Pragmatically Curious Manner, Ronald J. Chenail
The Qualitative Report
In a world of methodological pluralism and mixed-methods, qualitative researchers can take a pathway of pragmatic curiosity by exploring their research interests and the possible design and methodology choices to create studies that not only allow them to pursue their investigative curiosities, but also result in coherent and effective systems of procedural choices. Ten steps are offered for researchers to conceive and conduct qualitative research projects that are both responsive to research goals and objectives and defendable to criteria of quality and critics of utility.
How To Conduct Qualitative Research On The Patient's Experience, Ronald J. Chenail
How To Conduct Qualitative Research On The Patient's Experience, Ronald J. Chenail
The Qualitative Report
From a perspective of patient-centered healthcare, exploring patients' (a) preconceptions, (b) treatment experiences, (c) quality of life, (d) satisfaction, (e) illness understandings, and (f) design are all critical components in improving primary health care and research. Utilizing qualitative approaches to discover patients' experiences can provide valuable information for practitioners and investigators alike. In this paper, the author describes how researchers can select from among five major qualitative designs (i.e., primary qualitative research, qualitative evaluation, collaborative inquiry, mixed method, and qualitative meta-study) and five preeminent qualitative methodologies (i.e., descriptive, phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography, and narrative) to create studies to meet their …

Research And Evaluation In Education And Psychology (3rd Ed.) By Donna M. Mertens- A Book Review, Candace H. Lacey
Research And Evaluation In Education And Psychology (3rd Ed.) By Donna M. Mertens- A Book Review, Candace H. Lacey
The Qualitative Report
While Research and Evaluation in Education and Psychology (3rd ed.) by Donna M. Mertens (2010) is a beginning research text, in many ways it is advanced in its approach to research design. Like any revised edition, much of the material from the earlier editions is in the present edition. What makes this book different is the call to the reader to reflect on a personal understanding of research. This is accomplished through the use of "Expand Your Thinking" blocks within the text. These brief reflections allow researchers to explore their own assumptions and beliefs and consider the impact of self …
