Work-family conflict can cause conflict for police officers due to stress and danger on the job. Stress from home can make work difficult and work-place stress can affect life at home. Three forms of work-family conflict (time-based, strain based, and behavior-based conflict) were examined. This quantitative study examined how work-family conflict affects job satisfaction, intention to stay employed in the field of law enforcement, and whether there was a difference in work-family conflict between male and female police officers. This study investigated the relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI), social media use, interpersonal violence and gender. EI is a relatively new topic of research that has been of interest to many organizations due to the proposition that EI assists in the development of individuals. With the proliferation of social media, interpersonal violence and women in the workforce, a determination of a relationship between EI and those variables was warranted. The Bem Sex-Role Inventory (BSRI) is a tool created by Sandra Bem in the 1970’s aimed at measuring individual’s androgyny. Critiques concerning the theoretical and methodological framework suggest that it may be in need of an update. The purpose of my research was to determine if and what adjustments were needed for the BSRI. An adjusted version of the short form of the BSRI was distributed to undergraduate students on a small Christian university campus in the Midwest. The "glass cliff’ effect has been studied widely within the business sphere, but there is limited research in how the effect applies to political bodies. This effect suggests that women are elected into positions of leadership during times of crisis or upheaval. This research will be an archival study of the 2006, 2008, and 2010 congressional elections, and to determine if female candidates are disproportionately represented in hard to win districts by their parties.
