Baseline Response Rate And The Effect Of A Stimulus Which Precedes Response-Independent Reinforcement, William M. Arnold Dec 1970

Baseline Response Rate And The Effect Of A Stimulus Which Precedes Response-Independent Reinforcement, William M. Arnold

Masters Theses

The relationship between baseline response rate and the effect of presenting a stimulus followed by response-independent reinforcement on baseline response rate was investigated in this study. Six pigeons were divided into two equal groups, one of which was conditioned to key peck on a VI-DRH schedule of food reinforcement, the other on a VI-DRL schedule of food reinforcement. Once responding had stabilized, a tone was introduced seven times during each session followed by a response-independent food reinforcement. The results indicated no change in the response rate of the VI-DRH group during the tone, and acceleration of responding during the tone …

Exploratory Behavior As A Function Of Two Different Feeding Conditions In The Gerbil, Dennis A. Vanderweele Aug 1970

Exploratory Behavior As A Function Of Two Different Feeding Conditions In The Gerbil, Dennis A. Vanderweele

Masters Theses

Gerbils were fed under two different schedules for six weeks after base-line measurement of open-table-top exploratory behavior. One schedule was a variable schedule such that a variable food amount could be administered at any time or place within the S's environment. The other schedule was fixed as to amount of food, time of administration, and feeding area. Separate Ss were utilized under each schedule and total amounts of food per group was equal. Both groups were retested for exploration after termination of the six week feeding schedule and statistical comparisons were made to S's baseline exploration. The fixed-fed Ss showed …

The Metropolitan Area Concept And Its Development In Lima, Peru, Jose Luis Mesa Aug 1970

The Metropolitan Area Concept And Its Development In Lima, Peru, Jose Luis Mesa

Masters Theses

Introduction

The paucity of comparative urban research is of course not due to indifference or lack of foresight on the part of social scientists, but to the absence of comparable or standardized information from one country to another and to the technical problems presented by this deficiency. The units of observation themselves, that is "cities" and "towns," have not been standardized, nor have we had information on a representative sample of these for the world as a whole. Furthermore, the structure of urban communities has changed with increasing urbanization, a change that has gone further in some countries than in …

A Comparison Of Two Practice Schedules To Achieve Bilateral Skill In Lacrosse Cradling, John Frederick Mccabe Aug 1970

A Comparison Of Two Practice Schedules To Achieve Bilateral Skill In Lacrosse Cradling, John Frederick Mccabe

Masters Theses

(From Statement of the Problem)

It was the purpose of this study to compare two practice schedules in achieving bilateral skill in lacrosse cradling. The two practice schedules consisted of (1) alternating the lacrosse stick from one side of the body to the other after every 30 seconds of practice time, and (2) a continuous schedule which consisted of practicing on one side of the body until the ball could be cradled continuously for 30 seconds before beginning to practice on the other side.

An Analysis Of Climatic Influences On Aggression, Alan M. Gonick Aug 1970

An Analysis Of Climatic Influences On Aggression, Alan M. Gonick

Masters Theses

The effects of exposure to various climatic conditions were analyzed to determine whether these conditions could produce aggression or facilitate shock-elicited aggression. Paired rats and single monkeys were used as subjects. The effects of independent and simultaneous changes in temperature and relative humidity were investigated in an attempt to produce aggression. Temperature, relative humidity, and length of exposure to climatic conditions were varied to determine if these conditions would facilitate shock-elicited aggression. The climatic conditions investigated were ineffective in reliably producing aggression between rats and also in facilitating shock-elicited aggression with rats and monkey subjects. Exposure to temperatures above 24.4°C …
