Managing Deviant Behaviours Among Undergraduate Student Users Of Federal University Libraries In Southwest, Nigeria, Osagie Oseghale, Christopher Olumuyiwa Ola

Abstract

This study investigated the causes, prevalence and effect of deviant behaviours among undergraduate student users of Federal university libraries in Southwest, Nigeria. Using a descriptive survey research design, 108 librarians from the six Federal university libraries participated in the study. A self-devised structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Data collected were analysed and results presented using table of descriptive statistics, frequencies and percentages. This study investigated information seeking-behaviour of 109 widows in south-western Nigeria, with a questionnaire, using mainly snowball and purposive sampling techniques. Findings reveal that respondents were economically and educationally weak and their information needs hinge mainly on finance, children’s education and training, counselling, family and personal health. They use sources including radio, children, mobile phone, church members and television when seeking for information. The aim of the study was to investigate the performance of the Postgraduate College of the University of Ibadan website by conducting a survey of the postgraduate students using the college portal, and other services. The study was guided by variables from WebQual4.0, DeLone and McLean’s (1992) Information System Success and UTAUT Concepts.
