Research Trends In Journal Of Intellectual Property Rights (Jipr): A Bibliometric Study, Velmurugan Chandran

The purpose of this study is to investigate the bibliometric analysis of Journal of Intellectual Property Rights (JIPR) for selected six years between 2007and 2012. It is found that the highest number of contributions i.e., 56 (19.79 %) were published in the years 2012. The degree of collaboration in this journal is 0.34. Further, the study investigated the authorship pattern, volume wise and issue wise authorship, author’s productivity and the single and multi-authored papers and average citations, page distribution, rank wise geographical distribution of publications and several features.

Abstract

Purpose- The present study is a bibliometric analysis of research papers of Utkal University published in various research journals of repute which were indexed in Scopus (officially known as Sciverse Scopus) during 2008 to 2012. It also identifies the annual growth of university publication, authorship pattern, author productivity, degree of collaboration, length of paper published, most prolific contributor, prolific institution/ organization, geographical distribution etc.

Bibliometrics is the discipline where quantitative methods were employed to probe scientific communication process by measuring and analyzing various aspects of written documents. It helps to monitor growth of literature and patterns of research. This paper examines the articles published in Journal of Documentation for authorship pattern, degree of collaboration, geographical distribution of papers and citation analysis. The studies carried out for this paper found that majority of papers are multi- authored. The degree of collaboration is found to be 0.51. In this study an attempt is made to investigate the scholarly communications in College & Research Libraries journal during the period of 1997-2011 and to study the key dimensions of its publication trends. For the analysis of the study 15 volumes containing 90 issues have been taken up for evaluation. Necessary bibliometric measures are applied to analyse different publication parameters. It is found that, contributions of articles to each volume of College & Research Libraries is nearly consistent and on an average 32 articles have been published every year.
