The Study Of Parental Educational Investment In Left-Behind Children In China, Zilin (Kelley) Zhong

This paper studies the effect of lengths of separation between parents and child on the amount of tuition paid for children in China, using the China Family Panel Survey data from 2010, 2012 and 2014. It also studies the factors that affect tuition for rural left-behind children in China such as children's preferences for education, children's characteristics, parents' reasons to give birth, and teacher attributes, with provinces and year fixed effects. I found that mothers or fathers who live with their children for 2 to 4 months in the past year pay statistically significantly more tuition than fathers or mothers …

This paper builds on previous studies that have examined the effect of age of immigration on adult labor market outcomes by considering the potential impact of the childhood environment in the country of origin. 2000 United States Census data and historical child mortality data is used to quantify the impact of the childhood environment in the country of origin on the effect of age of immigration on adult labor market outcomes. The theoretical basis for the present study derives from the recent emergence of child care as a major issue of social policy and from the apparent influence of social networks on child care practices. The review of the literature which follows will describe the development of concern over child care policy and practice and the current state of research relative to it, with emphasis on studies of self-care. This paper is a study of figurative language and speech play in first grade children. I will describe what types of figurative language the children use and comprehend and discuss the role of figurative language, and specifically metaphor, in speech play. I will emphasize the need to study children's language using anthropological methods as a separate entity from adult language. In this chapter, I will present a survey of the literature concerning children's speech play and figurative language, and then I will provide a brief introduction to my work.
