The Application Of Behavior Modification Techniques To Two Geriatric Patients, Beth A. Schneider
The Application Of Behavior Modification Techniques To Two Geriatric Patients, Beth A. Schneider
Graduate Theses
Behavior modification techniques were applied to the behavioral problems of two geriatric nursing home residents. For the first subject, providing reinforcement for a competing activity effectively reduced both disruptive behavior defined as requests for cigarettes, attacking a fellow resident or unauthorized removal of charts, and time spent in the hallway. Similarly, for the second subject, offering reinforcement for out-of-bed behavior had the desired effect of increasing time spent out of bed. However, positive changes in behavior failed to generalize beyond the experimental situation, possibly due to an inability to exercise adequate control over the environment. Suggestions for establishing a totally …

An Assessment Of Two Behavioral Group Strands (Self Help Skills And Communication Skills) Of The Behavior Characteristic Progression System, Betty M. Condray
Graduate Theses
The Behavioral Characteristic Progression (BCP) System consists of a matrix of over 2,500 behavioral areas or strands. Each strand is composed of up to 100 progressive steps or characteristics, ranging from minimal performance to normally accepted adult behavior in that area. This study reports on a reassessment of five profoundly retarded, eight severely retarded and six moderately retarded subjects randomly selected from the population' of a Behavior Modification Unit of Big Spring State Hospital. Each subject was assessed initially with-the BCP in late Fall, 1974, or Summer, 1975. Eight self help skills strands and five communication skills strands were selected …
Attitudes Of Elementary Teachers Toward Participation And Representation In Decision-Making, Willie R. Guster
Attitudes Of Elementary Teachers Toward Participation And Representation In Decision-Making, Willie R. Guster
Graduate Theses
It was the purpose of this study to investigate the attitude of elementary teachers toward direct participation and representative participation in educational decision-making. A population of elementary teachers from six elementary schools were given an attitude survey concerning involvement. The results of this study suggested that elementary teachers attached more importance to direct participation than representative decision-making concerning areas of instructional leadership. Teachers were more dispersed in their attitudes toward direct and representative participation in the areas of administrative leadership, school-community relations, and professional self-improvement
A Systematic Approach To Education In The Andrews Independent School District, Pat K. Watkins
A Systematic Approach To Education In The Andrews Independent School District, Pat K. Watkins
Graduate Theses
During the past decade, people in most areas of public and private life have turned to questioning the conditions under which they live and the quality of life itself. After years of rapid expansion, deficiencies, obsolete facilities, and practices, inadequacies in the educational product, and lack of long-term goals that are generally agreed upon by consumer and producer became apparent. Many people think that somebody is responsible for the shortcomings and should be held accountable. Determining responsibility for learning results is complicated by the many variables, controllable and uncontrollable, that affect the outcomes of the learner's experiences. Who is responsible …
A Study Of The Relationship Of School Disciplinary Procedures And The High School Dropout At Odessa High School, James K. Adian
A Study Of The Relationship Of School Disciplinary Procedures And The High School Dropout At Odessa High School, James K. Adian
Graduate Theses
The document presents a review of relevant literature providing research findings relevant to problems concerning dropouts. Data for the document was obtained by sending a questionnaire to selected drop out students at Odessa High School. The results of the survey were organized into statistical data and reported in the document in tables and diagrams. The results of the survey imply a significant number of dropouts have a negative attitude about the treatment they received from school personnel, but school is generally regarded as a needed and good experience. Further implications are for a controlled study to determine the cause of …
The Ability To Love As A Therapist-Offered Condition For Effective Therapeutic Encounter, Allan David Edson
The Ability To Love As A Therapist-Offered Condition For Effective Therapeutic Encounter, Allan David Edson
Graduate Theses
This report begins with a historical reconstruction of the concept of therapist effectiveness in psychotherapy.
The ultimate objective is to further the work of Truax, Carkhuff, Bergin, et. al., by proposing that there is a still more basic comprehensive therapist-offered condition than accurate empathy, non-possessive warmth and genuineness. The thesis, as developed in this report, demonstrates that the aforementioned three conditions are merely constituents of the therapist's "ability to love."
Explained within, are the proposed reasons "why" the therapist's "ability to love" effects constructive personality change and the implications of the thesis for development of new models of psychotherapeutic technique, …
An Analysis Of Peer Counseling As A Guidance Process In Educational Settings: A Review Of Literature And A Model For Implementation, Virginia E. Reed
An Analysis Of Peer Counseling As A Guidance Process In Educational Settings: A Review Of Literature And A Model For Implementation, Virginia E. Reed
Graduate Theses
This study was designed to investigate the efficacy of the peer helping model as a viable approach to extending guidance services to students not now being served effectively due to manpower constraints in the public schools. Evaluation and research data supporting peer counseling programs are limited. Since the use of peer helpers as an identified and organized element within a guidance program is a relatively new phenomenon, still considered experimental or "innovative", it is not surprising that information is tenuous and often ambiguous. However, the growth of peer counseling programs during the last decade, along with the apparent success of …

The Search For Self/Other Distinctions In The Moral Judgment Of Five, Six, And Seven-Year-Olds, Vivian A. Proffitt
Graduate Theses
Ninety-six children, ages 5> 6, and 7 responded to six Piagetian type story pairs that contrasted good intentions/ high damage with had intentions/low damage to determine differences in how the child judges (a) himself, and (h) another child in identical imaginary situations. The story themes included lying, stealing, and property damage. The taped and illustrated story pairs were presented twice during the testing period with (a) self as the central character, and (b) another child as the central character. No support was found for the Piagetian supposition that the child first makes autonomous choices in situations that involve self. However, …
