This paper looks at recent efforts in academic libraries to explore cost-saving measures without sacrificing service quality. The Argus Digital Collection: A Digital Archive For Access And Preservation, Fredrick Miller

The Argus Digital Collection is Illinois Wesleyan University’s first digital library project. This project began as an archival and preservation project, and presented management and technical challenges for the University’s library and central Information Technology organizations. This paper reviews how the project came to be, project hurdles, lessons learned, and where we go from here. Academic institutions contemplating similar digital archive projects can benefit from Illinois Wesleyan University’s experience with the Argus Digital Collection.
