In this paper a novel high temperature microencapsulated phase change material (MEPCM) based on paraffin as the core material and MF resin as the shell material has been developed with the in-situ polymerization method for solar hot water storage application. The results showed that the type of emulsifier could influence core material content, the encapsulation efficiency as well as the latent heat capacity. Based on the results and analysis the study has shown that energy storage density could be increased by as much as 59% if 60wt% of MEPCM 1 was to be used in the proposed compacted MEPCM-water bed …

Disaster Management (DM) is a diffused area of knowledge. It has many complex features interconnecting the physical and the social views of the world. Many international and national bodies create knowledge models to allow knowledge sharing and effective DM activities. But these are often narrow in focus and deal with specified disaster types. We analyze thirty such models to uncover that many DM activities are actually common even when the events vary. We then create a unified view of DM in the form of a metamodel. This article presents the development of a novel magnetorheological damper which has a self-sensing ability. In this study, a linear variable differential sensor, which was based on the electromagnetic induction mechanism, was integrated with a conventional magnetorheological damper. The working principle, configuration, and prototype of the displacement differential self-induced magnetorheological damper based on the integrated linear variable differential sensor technology were presented. A mathematical model of the proposed displacement differential self-induced magnetorheological damper was established. This paper argues for placing ontologies at the centre of the software development life cycle for distributed component-based systems and, in particular, for service-oriented systems. It presents an ontology-based development process which relies on three levels of abstraction using ontologies: architecture layer, application layer and domain layer. The paper discusses the key roles of ontologies with respect to the various abstraction layers and their corresponding impact on the concomitant workproducts. In addition, a peer-to-peer-based service selecting and composing tool is suggested as a way of supporting the process. Assessments of the energy performance of green roofs have traditionally been performed with experimental and modelling procedures. Experimental green roof energy studies have significant disadvantages (expensive, time-consuming, cannot be generalised, etc.). On the other hand, modelling studies are often done with over-simplified models (for example, by ignoring the effect of moisture flows in the green roof layers) or with detailed models that require inputs which are often difficult to be obtained in practice and may involve a certain degree of uncertainty. Australian underground coal mines predominately use the longwill method for coal extraction. In longwall mining at least two parallel roadways known as gateroads are mined to delineate the sides of the longwall block, a longwall installation face is then driven connecting the gatheroads to enable the longwall mining equipment to be installed. Roadway development should ideally be ahead of the longwall so that the longwall equipment can be installed into the newly developed panel with minimal delay to coal production.
