A newly developed manufacturing technology - micro cross wedge rolling technology is an appropriate method to produce micro axisymmetric components such as micro stepped shafts. The development of this classic cold forming process is limited by a lack of sufficient understanding of geometric and material effects due to the size reduction of the components. A passive means of lowering the energy demand of buildings is the application of green roofs. The complexity between heat and moisture exchanges in green roof layers and the large variations of green roof types make the need for experimental or simulation assessments necessary for quantifying the energy benefits from green roofs. A number of potential biases have been identified that may contribute a spurious component to the observed correlation between variables. One such potential bias is the manner in which items are worded. This paper presents a technique and a program of research to estimate the magnitude of method bias arising from item wording. We hypothesize that the greater the level of text similarity between items employed to capture predictor and criterion variables, the greater the magnitude of the observed effect size between them. Background: Measuring grain characteristics is an integral component of cereal breeding and research into genetic control of seed development. Measures such as thousand grain weight are fast, but do not give an indication of variation within a sample. Other methods exist for detailed analysis of grain size, but are generally costly and very low throughput. Grain colour analysis is generally difficult to perform with accuracy, and existing methods are expensive and involved. We extend the existing toll pricing studies with fixed demand to stochastic demand. A new and practical second-best pricing problem with uncertain demand is proposed and formulated as a stochastic mathematical program with equilibrium constraints. In view of the problem structure, we develop a tailored global optimization algorithm. This algorithm incorporates a sample average approximation scheme, a relaxation-strengthening method, and a linearization approach. The proposed global optimization algorithm is applied to three networks: a two-link network, a seven-eleven network and the Sioux-Falls network. The International Electrotechnical Committee Technical Report IEC 61000-3-13 is focused on the coordination of voltage unbalance (VU) in power systems by prescribing a methodology to determine individual VU emission allocation limits to installations. This paper provides an alternative VU emission allocation process to that of the IEC Technical Report, which is based on the concept of constrained bus voltage (CBV) method. It is important to estimate the contribution of renewable generation units in the evaluation of system generation adequacy for power generation planning taking into account the demand and renewable generation correlation and uncertainty. The effective load carrying capability (ELCC) is usually used for this purpose. In this paper, a noniterative analytical method is proposed for estimating the peak load carrying capability (PLCC) and ELCC of conventional and renewable generation units. This paper presents the development and validation of an optimal design methodology for vertical U-tube ground heat exchangers (GHEs) used in HVAC systems. The dimensionless entropy generation number obtained by scaling the entropy generation due to heat transfer and pressure drop, on the ratio of the heat transfer rate to the average fluid temperature of vertical GHEs is employed as the objective function. Five design variables are first selected based on the global sensitivity analysis and then optimized by a genetic algorithm optimization technique. The aim of this study is to explore and understand the influence of demographic factors on teleconsultation acceptance in Malaysian government hospitals. The materials of this study are based on an exploratory mixed-method study involving semi-structured interviews with key informants and questionnaires survey of health care providers. The prominent influence of demographic aspects over the acceptance of teleconsultation technology from the mixed methods standpoint is further discussed. The findings of both results provide evidence to suggest that teleconsultation acceptance differs across the types of hospital, distance between referring and referral hospital, role of teleconsultation, and user's computer ability. This paper qualitatively and quantitatively reviews and compares three typical tyre-road friction coefficient estimation methods, which are the slip slope method, individual tyre force estimation method and extended Kalman filter method, and then presents a new cost-effective tyre-road friction coefficient estimation method. Based on the qualitative analysis and the numerical comparisons, it is found that all of the three typical methods can successfully estimate the tyre force and friction coefficient in most of the test conditions, but the estimation performance is compromised for some of the methods during different simulation scenarios.
