Three polyimide membranes (polymer 0CN, copolymers 0CN/2CN (50/50) and polymer 2CN), with and without [Formula presented] dipolar groups, have been prepared by electrospinning and evaluated as lithium-ion battery separators. The prepared membranes show average fiber diameters between 0.5 and 1.09 μm and a degree of porosity of ~ 80%. The thermal stability, uptake, tortuosity and ionic conductivity values are influenced by the presence of the [Formula presented] dipolar groups in the polyimide polymer chain. The best battery performance in LFP/Li system is obtained for the 0CN sample, which shows discharge capacity values of 149.7 mAh·g− 1, 146.5 mAh·g− 1 and …

A scale-multiplicative semigroup in a totally disconnected, locally compact group G is one for which the restriction of the scale function on G is multiplicative The maximal scale-multiplicative semigroups in groups acting 2-transitively on the set of ends of trees without leaves are determined and shown to correspond to geometric features of the tree.
Model Tests On Free-Standing Passive Pile Groups In Sand, Wei-Dong Guo, E. H. Ghee
Model Tests On Free-Standing Passive Pile Groups In Sand, Wei-Dong Guo, E. H. Ghee
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
A number of tests have been conducted to investigate response of vertically loaded capped pile groups in sand undergoing uniform lateral soil movement. The development of shear force, bending moment and deflection along the piles was measured. Presented in this paper are 4 tests on 2-pile free-standing groups, with a view to establish solutions for predicting the pile response. It was concluded that (1) maximum bending moment Mmax is largely linearly related to the sliding force Tmax in stable and moving layers; (2) The combined impact of pile-cap fixity, soil movement profiles, and axial load may be quantified by a …

We present an analysis of 16 galaxy clusters, one group, and one galaxy drawn from the Chandra Data Archive. These systems possess prominent X-ray surface brightness depressions associated with cavities or bubbles that were created by interactions between powerful radio sources and the surrounding hot gas. The central galaxies in these systems harbor radio sources with luminosities ranging between ∼2 × 10 38 and 7 × 10 44 ergs s -1. The cavities have an average radius of ∼10 kpc, and they lie at an average projected distance of ∼20 kpc from the central galaxy. The minimum energy associated with …

We show that the subspace An(X) of the free Abelian topological group A(X) on a Tychonoff space X is locally compact for each n ω if and only if A2(X) is locally compact if an only if F2(X) is locally compact if and only if X is the topological sum of a compact space and a discrete space. It is also proved that the subspace Fn(X) of the free topological group F(X) is locally compact for each n …

The Soft X-Ray Background: Evidence For Widespread Disruption Of The Gas Haloes Of Galaxy Groups, K K S Wu, A C. Fabian, Paul E. J Nulsen

Almost all of the extragalactic X-ray background (XRB) at 0.25 keV can be accounted for by radio-quiet quasars, allowing us to derive an upper limit of 4 keV cm−2 s−1 sr−1 keV−1 for the remaining background at 0.25 keV. However, the XRB from the gas haloes of groups of galaxies, with gas removal resulting from cooling accounted for, exceeds this upper limit by an order of magnitude if non-gravitational heating is not included. We calculate this using simulations of halo merger trees and realistic gas density profiles, which we require to reproduce the observed gas fractions …

We investigate the structure of the C*-algebras (9ρ constructed by Doplicher and Roberts from the intertwining operators between the tensor powers of a representation ρ of a compact group. We show that each Doplicher-Roberts algebra is isomorphic to a corner in the Cuntz-Krieger algebra (9A of a {0,1}-matrix A = Aρ associated to ρ. When the group is finite, we can then use Cuntz's calculation of the K-theory of (9A to compute K*((9ρ).
