An Analysis Of Locational Aspects Of The Portland Cement Industry In Kentucky, Wayne Perkins

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Factors affecting the spatial distribution of the Portland cement industry are discussed and applied to Kentucky. Cement is found to be both raw material and market oriented and to be highly sensitive to transportation costs. Several areas in Kentucky are found to have the necessary raw materials for cement. However, only one of these sites, Louisville, has sufficient markets to support cement production; this area is served by two factories. There are no unused sites suitable for cement production in Kentucky. The Lexington area has the potential of being able to support cement production by the year 2020.

Psychological Androgyny & Gender Attribution To Hypothetical Persons, Deanna Mader

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Previous research concerning sex-role stereotyping, psychological androgyny, and mental health as it relates both to sex-role stereotyping and androgyny was reviewed. The literature indicated the need for a reevaluation of mental health standards with regard to sex-role stereotypes. The present study attempted to approach this need by examining the relationship between psychological androgyny and attitudes toward sex-role stereotyping. It was hypothesized that androgynous individuals would be more likely than other individuals to state that a hypothetical person possessing a specific set of traits could be either male or female. IL was anticipated that this would be true regardless of the …

Alabama's Segregation Academies: A Geographic Analysis Of Enrollment Decline, Frederick Mader Sep 1978

Alabama's Segregation Academies: A Geographic Analysis Of Enrollment Decline, Frederick Mader

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of this research has been to document and analyze the pattern of declining segregation academy enrollment in Alabama prior to 1975. Segregation academy enrollment grew steadily until the 1971-1972 school year. Since that time, a decrease in enrollment has occurred. A comparative study was conducted of several variants of the Raven cycle of myths as manifested among the Tlingit Indians of the Northwest Coast. The results of this folkloristic study indicate that the myths serve several didactic functions. In addition to the manifest function of explaining the origin of the present order of the world the myths also serve to provide members of the society with a classificatory system through which they are able to relate to observable phenomena within their environment. The myths also provide institutionalized behavioral alternatives available to the society as manifested by the actions of Raven, …

Validity Of Bender Gestalt Test Emotional Indicators For Functional Fifth-Grade Children, Donald Britt

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Both the Bender Gestalt Test and the Children's Personality Questionnaire were administered to 75 fifth grade students. Analyses were made to determine the possible relationships between the Koppitz Emotional Indicators on the Bender Gestalt Test and the various personality factors assessed by the Children's Personality Questionnaire. These results provide a basis for questioning the validity of the Koppitz Emotional Indicators and their adequacy for use as a technique for personality assessment …
