This study characterizes the 21.4 kilobase plasmid pECTm80 isolated from Escherichia coli strain 80, an α hemolytic human clinical diarrhoeal isolate (serotype O108:H-). DNA sequence analysis of pECTm80 revealed it belonged to incompatibility group X1, and contained plasmid partition and toxin-antitoxin systems, an R6K-like triple origin (ori) replication system, genes required for replication regulation, insertion sequences IS1R, ISEc37 and a truncated transposase gene (Tn3-like ΔtnpA) of the Tn3 family, and carried a class 2 integron. The class 2 integron of pECTm80 contains an intact cassette array dfrA1-sat2, encoding resistance to trimethoprim and streptothricin, …

Electrodeposition Of Pyrrole And 3-(4-Tert-Butylphenyl)Thiophene Copolymer For Supercapacitor Applications, Binbin Yue, Caiyun Wang, Pawel Wagner, Yang Yang, Xin Ding, David L. Officer, Gordon G. Wallace Jan 2012

Electrodeposition Of Pyrrole And 3-(4-Tert-Butylphenyl)Thiophene Copolymer For Supercapacitor Applications, Binbin Yue, Caiyun Wang, Pawel Wagner, Yang Yang, Xin Ding, David L. Officer, Gordon G. Wallace

Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health - Papers: part A

The electropolymerization of pyrrole (Py), 3-(4-tert-butylphenyl)thiophene (TPT) monomer or the mixed Py and TPT monomers on stainless steel mesh substrate were performed in 1 M LiClO4/acetonitrile solution. A much lower potential of 0.75 V was required for the co-electropolymerization of Py and TPT, in sharp contrast to that of 1.20 V for poly(3-(4-tert-butylphenyl)thiophene) (PTPT) formation. The resultant homopolymers and copolymer were characterized with FESEM and FTIR, and assembled into supercapacitors to investigate their electrochemical performances. The copolymer electrode delivered the highest specific capacitance of 291 F g−1 at a scan rate of 5 mV s−1, in comparison with that of …

Order-4 Orthogonal Cooperative Communication In Space-Time-Frequency Coded Mb-Ofdm Uwb, Zixuan Lin, Le C. Tran, Farzad Safaei

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The combination of cooperative communication and Space-Time-Frequency-Codes (STFCs) has been recently proposed in the literature for Multiband OFDM Ultra-Wideband (MB-OFDM UWB) to improve the bit error performance, system capacity, data rate and wireless communications range. This paper proposes a cooperative communication design using Order-4 Orthogonal STFCs in MB-OFDM UWB systems, which is referred to as Order-4 Orthogonal Cooperative Communication Scheme (4-OCCS). It will be shown that 4-OCCS improves significantly the diversity and error performance of the MB-OFDM UWB system, compared to the conventional MB-OFDM UWB (without STFCs) as well as our Order-2 Orthogonal Cooperative Communication Scheme using Alamouti STFCs (2-OCCS) …

Academic Snobbery: Local Historians Need More Support [4 April], Ian C. Willis Jan 2012

Academic Snobbery: Local Historians Need More Support [4 April], Ian C. Willis

Local history is one of the most popular forms of history in Australia. Yet there is a yawning gap between the enthusiastic amateur and the academic historian.

While some academic historians engage with local history, sadly there is an entrenched snobbery from the academy. From the other side, the enthusiastic amateur is too wound up with a parochial approach to local history and often doesn’t see the bigger picture.

If both sides can engage with each other, the result would be a better type of history practise and a greater contribution to the story of Australia.

Comments On Slee Et Al. (2012). A Reassessment Of Last Interglacial Deposits At Mary Ann Bay, Tasmania. Quaternary Australasia 29: 4-11, Colin V. Murray-Wallace, Eric A. Colhoun, Albert Goede, Patrick G. Quilty Jan 2012

Comments On Slee Et Al. (2012). A Reassessment Of Last Interglacial Deposits At Mary Ann Bay, Tasmania. Quaternary Australasia 29: 4-11, Colin V. Murray-Wallace, Eric A. Colhoun, Albert Goede, Patrick G. Quilty

It is always pleasing to see additional work undertaken on sedimentary successions that are critical to the understanding of Quaternary environmental changes. The deposits at Mary Ann Bay, as with other last interglacial (MIS 5e; 128-118 ka) coastal-marine successions in Tasmania, are critical for demonstrating that the region has experienced a different relative sea-level history to mainland southeastern Australia, and that parts of Tasmania have been uplifted by 16-17 m since the last interglacial maximum. Unfortunately, the recently published paper by Slee et al. (2012) gives credence to two thermoluminescence (TL) ages which must be inaccurate. In uncritically accepting the …

Order-4 Quasi-Orthogonal Cooperative Communication In Stfc Mb-Ofdm Uwb, Zixuan Lin, Le Chung Tran, Farzad Safaei, Tadeusz A. Wysocki

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Recently, cooperative communication and Space-Time-Frequency-Codes (STFCs) have been introduced into the Multiband OFDM Ultra-Wideband (MB-OFDM UWB) to improve the reliability, data rate and system capacity. This paper proposes a cooperative communication scheme for a four source node MB-OFDM UWB system using Quasi-Orthogonal STFCs, which is referred to as order-4 Quasi-Orthogonal Cooperative Communication Scheme (4-QOCCS). Simulation results show that the proposed 4-QOCCS provides significantly better error performance over the conventional MB-OFDM UWB and our order-2 Orthogonal Cooperative Communication Scheme (2-OCCS) using the Alamouti STFCs, and even better than the order-4 Orthogonal Cooperative Communication Scheme (4-OCCS), which we have been recently proposed, …

The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), with assistance from multiple partners, stakeholders, and researchers, developed the first Canadian Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines for the Early Years (aged 0-4 years). These national guidelines are in response to a call from health and health care professionals, child care providers, and fitness practitioners for guidance on sedentary behaviour in the early years. The guideline development process followed the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research Evaluation (AGREE) II framework. The recommendations are informed by evidence from a systematic review that examined the relationships between sedentary behaviour (predominantly screen time) and health indicators (healthy body weight, …
