Evolving Formative Assessment For And With Ubiquitous Technologies, Nadine Adams, Anne Porter Jan 2014

Evolving Formative Assessment For And With Ubiquitous Technologies, Nadine Adams, Anne Porter

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Formative assessment is a vital part of the learning process. It guides student learning and prepares them for summative assessment. The feedback that accompanies formative assessment is valuable for students' learning. The combination of formative assessment and feedback facilitate the development of self-efficacy. Technology is not only changing the way students study and learn but also how assessment is conducted and managed. Globalisation and corporatisation of universities has changed the way academics work and has had an effect on teaching, assessment and feedback. This paper looks at how formative assessment in an enabling mathematics course has been developed to take …

The search included English language, publications from 2002-2012. Two reviewers independently evaluated all relevant studies. Administrative data relevant to CI in Kazakhstan were obtained from the Ministry of Health. Results: Three relevant systematic reviews and an health technology assessment report …

Assessment Of A Sequential Phase Extraction Procedure For Uranium-Series Isotope Analysis Of Soils And Sediments, P O. Suresh, A Dosseto, H K. Handley, P P. Hesse Jan 2014

Assessment Of A Sequential Phase Extraction Procedure For Uranium-Series Isotope Analysis Of Soils And Sediments, P O. Suresh, A Dosseto, H K. Handley, P P. Hesse

Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health - Papers: part A

The study of uranium-series (U-series) isotopes in soil and sediment materials has been proposed to quantify rates and timescales of soil production and sediment transport. Previous works have studied bulk soil or sediment material, which is a complex assemblage of primary and secondary minerals and organic compounds. However, the approach relies on the fractionation between U-series isotopes in primary minerals since they were liberated from the parent rock via weathering. In addition, secondary minerals and organic compounds have their own isotopic compositions such that the composition of the bulk material may not reflect that of primary minerals. Hence, there is …

Evaluating Objective Structured Clinical Assessment (Osca) In Undergraduate Nursing, Leah East, Kathleen Peters, Elizabeth J. Halcomb, Debra Raymond, Yenna Salamonson Jan 2014

Evaluating Objective Structured Clinical Assessment (Osca) In Undergraduate Nursing, Leah East, Kathleen Peters, Elizabeth J. Halcomb, Debra Raymond, Yenna Salamonson

Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health - Papers: part A

The aims of this mixed methods study were to gain insight into how individual assessors determine an Objective Structured Clinical Assessment (OSCA) result for undergraduate nursing students and identify whether individual assessor perceptions and professional characteristics have an impact on students' results. Results from 25 participants showed that although less than half (44%) of the participants were teaching in the course that they were assessing, the participants were highly experienced clinicians and nearly three-quarters (72%) had completed formal teaching qualifications. There were wide variations in pass rates (16.7-90%) between assessors. The widest disparity was observed between assessors with and those …

Performance Based Seismic Assessment Of Bridges Designed According To Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code, M Neaz Sheikh, Frederic Legeron Jan 2014

Performance Based Seismic Assessment Of Bridges Designed According To Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code, M Neaz Sheikh, Frederic Legeron

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Recent research efforts have focused on the development of performance based seismic design methodologies for structures. However, the seismic design rules prescribed in the current Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC) is based largely on force based design principles. Although a set of performance requirements (performance objectives) for different return period earthquake events have been specified, there is no explicit requirement in the CHBDC to check the attainment of such performance objectives for the designed bridges. Also, no engineering parameters have been assigned to the specified performance objectives. This paper correlates seismic performance objectives (both qualitative and quantitative) with engineering …

An Approach For Online Assessment Of Rooftop Solar Pv Impacts On Low-Voltage Distribution Networks, Md Jan-E- Alam, Kashem Muttaqi, Darmawan Sutanto Jan 2014

An Approach For Online Assessment Of Rooftop Solar Pv Impacts On Low-Voltage Distribution Networks, Md Jan-E- Alam, Kashem Muttaqi, Darmawan Sutanto

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Assumption-based offline analysis tools may not be able to provide sufficient and accurate information for the corrective decision making to mitigate solar photovoltaic (PV) impacts in the future distribution grids. This is mainly due to the increasing penetration level of intermittent power generation resources and also the fluctuating behavior of consumer demand. Online assessment tools can assist to manage PV impacts and aid to mitigate those on a real-time basis. This paper proposes an approach for online assessment of rooftop PV impacts on low-voltage (LV) networks using real-time network data. A variable-width sliding window will be used to provide the …

A Review Of Data Quality Assessment Methods For Public Health Information Systems, Hong Chen, David Hailey, Ning Wang, Ping Yu

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

High quality data and effective data quality assessment are required for accurately evaluating the impact of public health interventions and measuring public health outcomes. Data, data use, and data collection process, as the three dimensions of data quality, all need to be assessed for overall data quality assessment. We reviewed current data quality assessment methods. The relevant study was identified in major databases and well-known institutional websites. We found the dimension of data was most frequently assessed. Completeness, accuracy, and timeliness were the three most-used attributes among a total of 49 attributes of data quality. The major quantitative assessment methods …

Mr-Less Surface-Based Amyloid Assessment Based On 11c Pib Pet, Luping Zhou, Oliver Salvado, Vincent Dore, Pierrick Bourgeat, Parnesh Raniga, S Lance Macaulay, David Ames, Colin L. Masters, Katherine A. Ellis, Victor L. Villemagne, Christopher Rowe, Jurgen Fripp

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Background: b-amyloid (Ab) plaques in brain’s grey matter (GM) are one of the pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and can be imaged in vivo using Positron Emission Tomography (PET) with 11C or 18F radiotracers. Estimating Ab burden in cortical GM has been shown to improve diagnosis and monitoring of AD. However, lacking structural information in PET images requires such assessments to be performed with anatomical MRI scans, which may not be available at different clinical settings or being contraindicated for particular reasons. This study aimed to develop an MR-less Ab imaging quantification method that requires only PET images for …
