User eXperience Lab
The User-eXperience Lab at the University of Tennessee in partnership with the Cascades Volcano Observatory conducted a remote usability study July 28 to August 18, 2020. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usability of map-based risk and hazard communication products to develop a new methodology for evaluating map-based communication products implemented by USGS and its partners and stakeholders.

During the DataONE Users Group (DUG) meeting and the Earth Science Information Partners’ Conference held in Madison, Wisconsin from July 15th – July 20th, we conducted a usability test evaluating DataONE.org and ONEMercury. This initial report works to address the preliminary issues that were continually identified as problematic throughout the usability testing.

MY CAREER AS A LIBRARIAN, LJ columnist, researcher, and teacher has been about building bridges--bridges between librarians and publishers, students and knowledge, and research and practice--which is probably why I was selected to deliver the NFAIS (National Federation of Abstracting and Information Services) Miles Conrad Memorial Lecture. Established in 1965, the lecture commemorates NFAIS founder G. Miles Conrad and honors people who have made significant contributions to information science (www.nfais.org). It isn't often that a librarian gets such acknowledgment from the information industry.
The work of librarians and information industry professionals is about connecting users to the information they need. …
