Survival Of The Fittest The Evolution Of Metadata In Digital Collections, Silvia B. Southwick, Amy Hunsaker
Scholarship Colloquium
There is a common misconception that metadata creation for digital collections is performed in a single step by subject experts. Once the metadata record is created it is believed that the record remains mostly unchanged. Our experience demonstrates that designing and implementing digital collections is a learning process. Various elements in the environment may prompt us to review our metadata and make changes that affect all collections. We will provide you with a few examples.

Information Literacy Skills Assessment And Curriculum Analysis In Teacher Education Programs: Establishing A Conceptual Framework, Samantha Godbey, Jennifer L. Fabbi
Scholarship Colloquium
The iSkills assessment is an hour-long, web-based simulation developed by ETS to measure ICT literacy skills of students from grades 10 through adulthood. In this study, the authors will compare the assessment scores of students majoring in teacher education (with junior-year status) at an urban commuter campus (UNLV) and a traditional residential campus (BYU). Controlling for demographic factors and GPA, the authors will focus on curricular elements in the respective teacher education programs that may contribute to the college students' test scores. Surveys and follow-up focus groups will focus on the relative value of information literacy as a skill set …

So What's The Problem?
CML’s juvenile literature collection serves a three-fold purpose

• Leisure reading collection
• Providing materials for use by CCSD teachers and students
Which means…
• Amazon’s e-book sales (and other info.) can guide leisure reading trends
• BUT…we also need input and buy-in from UNLV instructors and CCSD teachers

Promoting Awareness Of The Unlv University Archives, Tom D. Sommer
Scholarship Colloquium
Promoting awareness of the University Archives has evolved for me for the past six years as University Archivist. It started out as an idea that quickly grew into a wonderful relationship between the University Archives and the rest of UNLV. I originally promoted awareness through outreach services as a librarian in Oro Valley, Arizona. It was a nice way for the organization to get the word out about the new library in the neighborhood. I started by reading novels to kids in Summer Camps at the nearby middle and high schools. It was a lot of fun and I was …
