The purpose of this report is to present an analysis of the responses to a questionnaire completed by 196 girls attending the Girls Club program during August, 1980. The sample of public and private employers in the four county area was selected by classifying all employers into categories or strata based on the number of employees. These were sampled at varying rates with greater emphasis given larger employers. All employers selected were sent a questionnaire, and follow-up phone calls were made to all non-respondents.

The rising cost of transportation has become a major concern to Americans at every level of the economic ladder. Indeed, recent price hikes in gasoline have affected practically all other products. An optimistic America has watched the per-gallon price of gasoline rise by 400 percent in the last decade and now helplessly looks to the future $2.00 per-gallon fuel. The facts speak for themselves. We cannot stop the rising cost of transportation; we must cope with the rising cost of transportation.

One purpose of this study was to assess how well Metropolitan Technical Community College is performing its mission of meeting the public's need for vocational education. This was measured, in part, by conducting a survey of the general public in each of the four counties the College serves, as well as the immediate neighborhood around each of its current or proposed campuses.

The second purpose of this study, to be discussed partially in the next chapter of this report, was to determine the vocational education needs and the continuing education interests of the respondents in these samples.

The evaluation and needs assessment study of Metropolitan Technical Community College included a survey of the professional staff at the College. A questionnaire was developed and delivered to the College administration for distribution to the faculty, administrators, and other professional staff. The administration was responsible for the distribution and collection of the survey instruments. Responses were received from 78 faculty, 44 administrators, and 14 other professional staff. This represents response rates of 75% for faculty and administrators and 93% for other professional staff. In the early 1970's as the enormous pressure of drug related problems was abating~ the attention of mental health professionals, school personnel, and the criminal justice system was refocused on the problems that come with alcohol. A new phenomenon seemed to be following the drug "scene", the increased alcohol usage among teen-agers and even children. The message was clear: an effort had to be made to prevent alcohol abuse before problem drinking became more widespread.

The purpose of this study is to determine the employer and training needs in Metropolitan Omaha in the occupational area designated as machine technologies.

The study is intended to provide information to Metropolitan Technical Community College for consideration in the possible establishment of a new course of study in machine technologies. The potential program would provide training for students wishing to become professional machinists, machine tool operators, set-up workers, and tool and die workers.
