Differences Between Faculty Members And Research Scholars In Use Of E-Resources, Anil Kumar Siwach

Purpose: The present study investigates the differences between faculty and research scholars in terms of e-resource use, methods of use, purpose, hindrances faced and search strategies.

Methodology: The study was conducted in five universities of North India using survey method. Stratified random sampling was used for selection of the samples and the final data consisted of 668 respondents including 252 faculty members and 416 research scholars. Mann Whitney test was conducted for testing of hypotheses.

The study analyses the male respondents are found 263(69.21%) which is followed by female respondents 117 (30.79%).285(75%) which is followed by M.Phil. with NET qualified respondents 51 (13.42%) and PG with NET qualified respondents 44 (11.57%). it is found that Madurai Kamaraj University and Alagappa University have respondents of each 130 (34.21%), 85 (22.36%) respondents are belonging to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, 35(9.22%) respondents are from Mother Teresa Women’s University. 263(69.20%) male respondents and 117(30.80%) female respondents. Quantitative Analyses For Access Of Electronic Information By The Faculty Members In The Engineering And Technology Institutions In Coimbatore District, P. Ramesh -, C. Baskaran

The study analyses the majority of the respondents 221 (42.5%) are assistant professors/ lecturers/senior lecturers, and 195 (37.5%) of them are associate professors followed by 104 (20%) of the respondents are professors. 331 (26.7%) of the respondents followed by the use of e-magazines by 182 (14.7%) respondents. The data shows that a large number of 263 (50.6%) of the respondents are “Highly Satisfied” with the lecturing materials followed by 257 (49.4%) of the respondents “Satisfied” with e-resources offering lecturing materials. This study examines the use of Open Access resources by faculty members of Christian colleges in Kerala. Structured questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of seven hundred faculty members from Kottayam District Kerala. The analysis declared that faculty members are not using open access resources. Open access directories, institutional repositories, Courseware and Databases are not familiar with faculty members. The present study was carried out at SRM Institute of Science & Technology (SRMIST). This study was conducted to examine the use of electronic resources and databases, awareness factor, purpose and problems faced while accessing the e-resources subscribed at SRMIST Central Library. For this purpose, a well-structured Questioner method was employed to gather data from the faculty members and research scholars of SRMIST. The result shows that despite the availability of a wide range of e-resources the frequency of their use was low. The reason behind was identified as their lack of awareness & subject coverage.

The study investigates the use of electronic resources by the science faculty and research scholars in five universities of North India. Survey method was employed and the data was collected using a comprehensive questionnaire. The results obtained from 668 respondents indicated that the usage was highest for e-journals in comparison to other e-resources. Preference is given to search engines in finding information which is chiefly used for research and related purposes.
