The CH(X2Π) + propene reaction is studied in the gas phase at 298 K and 4 Torr (533.3 Pa) using VUV synchrotron photoionization mass spectrometry. The dominant product channel is the formation of C4H6 (m/z 54) + H. By fitting experimental photoionization spectra to measured spectra of known C4H6 isomers, the following relative branching fractions are obtained: 1,3-butadiene (0.63 ± 0.13), 1,2-butadiene (0.25 ± 0.05), and 1-butyne (0.12 ± 0.03) with no detectable contribution from 2-butyne. This article investigates two factors posited to affect consumers' ability to learn a novel attribute relationship (e.g., "no pesticides → USDA organic symbol") and apply this recently acquired knowledge when making judgments in a new product category. The first factor concerns the nature of the attribute encoding process and, in particular, whether it allows for comparison of examples. Pyrolysis Of Fulvenallene (C7h6) And Fulvenallenyl (C7h5): Theoretical Kinetics And Experimental Product Detection, Adam Trevitt, G Da Silva, M Steinbauer, P Hemberger

Fulvenallene and fulvenallenyl are the respective C7H6 and C7H5 global minima, yet their importance to combustion has only recently emerged. We have studied the pyrolysis of these species theoretically to obtain rate constants and compare our results to pyrolysis mass spectrometry experiments for product identification. Master equation modeling reveals that fulvenallene rapidly dissociates to fulvenallenyl + H, and that fulvenallenyl dissociates to form propargyl plus diacetylene, with lesser amounts of i-C5H3 (CH2CCCCH)/n-C5H3 (CHCCHCCH) plus acetylene. Photoionization mass spectrometry experiments using a pyrolysis source on the fulvenallene precursor phthalide identify products consistent with those proposed theoretically for both fulvenallene and fulvenallenyl …

We report on results from two experimental techniques concerned with the reactions of small carbon based radicals (CN and CH) with unsaturated hydrocarbons. First, low temperature (100-300K) kinetic studies using a pulse Laval nozzle technique probe the reactions of the CN radical with benzene and toluene. The CN + benzene is found to be a fast, barrierless reaction. But in the case of toluene, two reaction pathways are in competition, one of which back dissociates to the reactants. The reaction of the methylidyne radical (CH) with acetaldehyde (CH3CHO) is studied at room temperature and at a pressure of 4 Torr (533.3 Pa) using a multiplexed photoionization mass spectrometer coupled to the tunable vacuum ultraviolet synchrotron radiation of the Advanced Light Source at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The CH radicals are generated by 248 nm multiphoton photolysis of CHBr3 and react with acetaldehyde in an excess of helium and nitrogen gas flow. The gas-phase CN + propene reaction is investigated using synchrotron photoionization mass spectrometry (SPIMS) over the 9.8 - 11.5 eV photon energy range. Experiments are conducted at room temperature in 4 Torr of He buffer gas. The CN + propene addition reaction produces two distinct product mass channels, C3H3N and C4H5N, corresponding to CH3 and H elimination, respectively. The CH3 and H elimination channels are measured to have branching fractions of 0.59 + 0.15 and 0.41 + 0.10, respectively. The absolute photoionization cross sections between 9.8 and 11.5 eV are measured for the three considered H-elimination coproducts: 1-, 2-, and …

The ability to effectively manage cross-functional working relationships (CFRs) during innovation is a key success factor in developing successful new products. However, empirical evidence suggests that CFRs during new product development are often problematic, resulting in extremely poor relations between managers, and the development of unsuccessful new products. This paper adds to our existing knowledge on the Marketing/R&D CFR by examining the effects of structural factors, communication behaviours, and interpersonal trust on the dependent variable perceived relationship effectiveness. Current research into online consumer behaviour seems to be limited in two respects, firstly it treats online interaction as a stand-alone phenomenon and secondly it focuses on discrete steps in consumer processes, neglecting links between the steps. This paper proposes a research method to investigate relative values and complementarity between online and offline interactions in a consumer's buying process, examining differences within and between steps. Extant Internet shopping literature identifies potential sources, and inhibitors, of utilitarian and hedonic value for consumers. However, Internet shopping is oftentimes treated as a relatively homogenous activity or the insights are accompanied by inexact qualifications such as 'in some situations' or 'for some types of products'. The present study enhances these insights in two ways. Firstly, the authors developed a Fulfillment-Product classification scheme that segments Internet shopping situations on the basis of shared marketing-relevant characteristics. Low-temperature rate coefficients are measured for the CN + benzene and CN + toluene reactions using the pulsed Laval nozzle expansion technique coupled with laser-induced fluorescence detection. The CN + benzene reaction rate coefficient at 105, 165, and 295 K is found to be relatively constant over this temperature range, (3.9−4.9) × 10−10 cm3 molecule−1 s−1. These rapid kinetics, along with the observed negligible temperature dependence, are consistent with a barrierless reaction entrance channel and reaction efficiencies approaching unity. The CN + toluene reaction is measured to have a rate coefficient of 1.3 × 10−10 cm3 molecule−1 s−1 at 105 …

This article investigates the differences in the mechanisms and strategies conducing to the introduction of new processes and products in Italy and Europe. After a review of the relevant literature, three models are proposed and tested in order to identify the different business strategies and innovation inputs associated to the successful implementation of new products and new processes. The empirical analysis uses innovation surveys (CIS 2-3-4) data at the industry level for 22 manufacturing sectors and 17 services sectors for 8 European countries, with a specific focus on the Italian case.
