Since the acquisition of Digital Commons and the launch of the FHSU Scholars Repository in January 2016, there has been an institutional effort to determine which platform is best suited to displaying existing content. Beginning in 2009, the FHSU Reveille Yearbooks collection had been hosted in CONTENTdm. This collection suffered from issues relating to access and user experience. The management of digital items and the description of information resources for future researchers make libraries natural partners in digital humanities projects. World War I Military Portraits is comprised of more than 32,000 photographs, typewritten volumes, and service records. The items were complied from collections of the American War Mothers Milwaukee County Chapter and the Milwaukee County Council of Defense. These items contain a wealth of genealogical information and provide a candid look into soldiers' ideas and perceptions of the First World War.

Utah Valley University's George Sutherland Archives participated in a state-wide digitization project called Pioneers In Your Attic: Preserving the Legacy of the Overland Migration. For over 20 years, from the 1960s until the 1980s, librarians at the Milwaukee Public Library clipped hundreds of recipes from the Milwaukee Journal and Milwaukee Sentinel. These recipes were heavily used at Ready Reference to answer telephone questions relating to various recipes. Before recipes were readily available on the internet, someone in the Milwaukee area looking for a particular recipe or cooking technique would call Ready Reference. These clipped recipes form the nucleus of the Historic Recipe File digital collection. Many of Milwaukee's favorite foods appear in the recipes in this collection. These special collections exist both within MPL's various archives and as part of several reference departments housed at MPL's Central Library. The Milwaukee Public Library's archives consist of the City of Milwaukee Archives, the Great Lakes Marine Collection, the Historic Photo Archives, the Manuscript Collection, the Milwaukee Road Archives, MPL's Own Archives, and the Wisconsin Architectural Archive. The Horace Seaman Wisconsin Infantry collection is made up primarily of photos from Colonel Horace M. Seaman's service with the Wisconsin National Guard. The majority of the photos come from his service with the 4th Wisconsin Infantry in the Spanish-American War of 1898. The photos in the collection include many portraits of individuals that Colonel Seaman served throughout his years with the Wisconsin National Guard and in his service in the Spanish-American War. In the 1960s a box of marriage certificates created between 1822 and 1876 was found at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. The box also included some miscellaneous documents pertaining to the marriage such as permission to marry slips, authorizations, and land deeds. The information in these documents include a parent giving permission for an underage child to marry, an affidavit of there being no impediment to marriage, information on the closeness of the blood relationship, and written permission for the clerk to hand the marriage license to a third party for delivery. The Milwaukee Mayors digital collection is an adaptation of a volume of images and information collected by Library staff to form the Biographical Sketches of the Mayors of the City of Milwaukee. Created more than 40 years ago, it has been updated with images of recent mayors. In addition to the images and information from Biographical Sketches, other photos were selected from the Historic Portrait Collection (a part of the Historic Photo Archives) in the Humanities Department.
