Information Exchange In Personnel Selection Decisions, Jennifer Dose Mar 2003

Information Exchange In Personnel Selection Decisions, Jennifer Dose

Business Educator Scholarship

Personnel selection decisions often involve group decisions in which individual group members do not share all the available information about candidates. Serial interviews are one example of this situation. Although serial interview techniques are commonly used to select employees, the selection literature has not extensively investigated serial interviewing, especially the process of coming to a selection decision as a group at the conclusion of the process. The information exchange literature is used to shed light on this process. Results showed that groups often failed to exchange sufficient information to come to the correct decision, discussed a higher proportion of negative …

Bad Moon Rising: A Candid Examination Of Digital Reference And What It Means To The Profession, Jonathan D. Lauer, Steve Mckinzie Jan 2003

Bad Moon Rising: A Candid Examination Of Digital Reference And What It Means To The Profession, Jonathan D. Lauer, Steve Mckinzie

Library Staff Presentations & Publications

The profound impact of digital reference claimed by its proponents is overstated. Librarians tend to overvalue technology, assume its intrinsic value in improving library operations and services, and undervalue the human factor of librarian expertise and professional competence. Overstating the impact of trends within librarianship is a cyclically recurring phenomenon and the hype surrounding digital reference is a current example. In most libraries, the adoption of digital reference is not likely to be cost effective nor its utility an improvement on structures already in place and functioning well. Librarians have difficult decisions to make regarding the allocation of resources. The …

Cyclophosphamide Induces Dose- And Time-Dependent Elevations In Spleen Norepinephrine Levels Of Balb/C Mice, Jonathan Karp, Jennifer L. Szczytkowski-Thomson Jan 2003

Cyclophosphamide Induces Dose- And Time-Dependent Elevations In Spleen Norepinephrine Levels Of Balb/C Mice, Jonathan Karp, Jennifer L. Szczytkowski-Thomson

Psychology Educator Scholarship

Chemotherapeutic drugs may not only kill rapidly dividing cells but may also alter the extracellular environment of surviving cells. We investigated the possibility that cyclophosphamide might alter the noradrenergic environment of the spleen. Male BALB/cByJ mice were administered a single injection of cyclophosphamide (0, 15, 50, or 100 mg/kg). Seventy-two hours after injection animals receiving 50 or 100 but not 15 mg/kg experienced elevated norepinephrine concentrations (pmol/mg) compared to animals given 0 mg/kg. The time course of changes in norepinephrine concentration was investigated 24–216 h after administration of 50 mg/kg cyclophosphamide; norepinephrine took 48 h to elevate, remained elevated for …
